Split backstay adjuster purchase block sizes

Greetings, Since it is frozen here in northern BC and I have cabin fever, it has brought me to the point of making some rigging upgrades for my M17 - 032 s/v cerulea. I want to use a spiit backstay adjuster next season and would like to know what size purchase blocks fellow sailors are using to connect to the Johnson style bridle(west marine) without going overboard for the intended use. I figure this will help with luff tension on my forestay. I have a schaeffer snap furl - furler coupled with 135% genoa as my headsail. Thanks in advance, bruce.

Well Bones, you kind of put me on the spot. Counting my boats is a very introspective experience, especially when I had to do it three times to get the correct number. That number is 11 which includes (2) wind surfers, but doesn't include my inflatable cruising kayak. And two are still under construction. Considering that the high point was (17) I would say that my recovery is guaranteed, well likely, well going in the right direction. I just have to stay away from those enablers, like that boat fiend from Pembroke. So, don't tell my wife. Hi Nick, Yep, I got your drift. So far, my Navman instruments have been flawless. One of the reasons I picked that product was that the depth and speed displays would fit right into the 4" holes I had in the M23 bulkhead. No drilling was required. The transducers were another story. Keep up that search for an M17! HI Nick, The problem in my opinion about having too many items is that that they do not get used. I'm at that point in my life where I'm getting rid of clutter, I've already done the accumulation aspect. It seems it's easy to sell a boat if it falls into the "cult" variety. Standard production "common" boats sit until the price tag drops low to the point where someone will bite. I have not seen the M17 at Hooper's in person, have you called and spoke with Brian or Bill? She looks good in the pictures, it's a sister ship to my 1976 model with the small galley. I can vouch for those cushions being original! Back to multiple boats, I seem to recall Rick Langer has a yard full. What is the number up to Rick???? Hi Joe, I have older SR Mariner analog instruments in my M17. The knotmeter is driven by the paddlewheel thus does not need battery power. The depth sounder does work, but, in my opinion, rather poorly. False or no readings are common, and, it seems to not function when you need it the most. I think both are useful, and I would always wish that info helming my boat. The new Navman pieces recently install on the M23 are fabulous, they work like a charm. Nothing like technology. PS, there were already holes in my hull for the transducers, so the question on whether to drill or not was not an issue. Hi Ron, Yes I saw Rodney Holland's post about his M17 being for sale. It does sound like a well maintained boat and just the ticket for me. But; I'm in Fredonia, NY over three days drive away unless I run into any blizzards. Closer to home there is a 1976 M17 at Hoopers in Afton, MN which is still a hike at 900 miles but I'm seriously considering going out there anyway to look at it next week. The other minor glitch, relatively speaking, is that if I want to be financially responsible I should sell the Nimble before buying another boat. But whoever said buying a boat was a sane financial undertaking. I live in fear that I might get carried away and start collecting boats. That would be the logical sequel to my fishing reel craze, over 500, from ones that would fit in the palm of your hand to ones as big as your head. And before that it was large format cameras. Super deal on Raymarine stuff

Bones, The reason I posted this message was not to promote Raymarine over other brands, but rather to alert fellow sailors on this forum of an opportunity to pick up an ST 60 display at less than half what it would cost if bought here in the States. Not only that but they are being sold directly by Raymarine, so no problems with warranty's. Part of the reason it is such a deal is that the value of the British pound has recently diminished against the dollar. Also it's the ST 60 that's being offered not the newer ST 60 Plus. For anyone who already has Raymarine equipment on board, this is a chance to add a repeater or replace a nonfunctional display. This would be of no value to anyone who already has Navman, an excellent choice, or other brands installed as only the displays are being offered. No transducers, and as you know those are pretty brand and model specific and usually can't be mixed and matched. Incidentally I found this info about Navman while browsing around: Navman was one of several marine electronics businesses that were swallowed up by Navico last year. From the Navico website: "Navico is truly a house of brands, with the B&G, Eagle, Lowrance, Navman, Northstar, and Simrad brands all manufactured and distributed under the Navico umbrella. Navico will continue to support the Navman warranty that came with each product." Hey Nick, I purchased Navman instruments for my M23 last winter and installed them last spring. I have been very happy with their performance. They have been discounted greatly as well.
