Now I know all you guys are gracious and always give a seller the benefit of doubt and I know I'm a bit of a cynic, but this boat is a butcher job. The boat, trailer and street were all painted at the same time. I'll bet there's no paint on the hull under the bunks. The painter not only didn't remove the motor, he didn't even get the tarp completely over it. The boat has been put up for sale (all over the place for $10K) without removing the masking from the paint job? On Ebay it didn't get any bids and that's strange in itself for there's usually someone willing to bid on just about any piece of junk. I wonder how the neighbors reacted to the street being painted. Hi Dick and listers, I looked at the M23 photos as well and what I noticed was the aft stay chainplates were on the inside of the cockpit, instead of the aft side of the transom. This boat was on E-Bay previously. I wonder what the original color was? Bones

Ahoy from LEPPO in Vermont

We are the lucky people who bought LEPPO from Connie Benneck. We picked her up three weeks ago, and have had her out three times on Lake Champlain, once in no wind, and twice in too much wind. So it averages out... She came safely home to Vermont, and will be teaching us a lot about sailing over the next few years. We were glad to get a boat that was in such good shape, and with all of Connie's clever and well-done improvements, we couldn't go wrong. We are happy to have this website as a resource, and will use it quite a bit. We came upon it when researching a Com-pac 16, and were taken with how many sources said look for a Montgomery instead. It may have been victimized<< When I was considering a M-23 a few years after getting my M-17, I came across a boat on the left coast that the guy was very eager to sell...even to the point of bringing it to Georgia when he visited relatives, and taking the M-17 in trade. I still have the video of it, with the registration numbers somewhere. Some members warned of a ragged out M-23 in Nevada or..??? I wonder if this is it. Harvey/ Ga

2005 NW Cruise Photos are on the Photo Site

Hi All, As many of you know the photos taken of the 2005 San Juan and Gulf Island cruise are posted on Randy Grave's web site. I've used lots of the shots and created an album which show some of the best (in my opinion) pictures. A request, if any of you folks put together a similar cruise, cut me a CD with everyones pictures (like Randy did) and let me put together an album of the cruise. Reefing

Hi guys, I recently got my jiffy reefing set up installed for the main. Actually tried it out recently and worked very well. My question is at what wind speed would you consider reefing? We were in gusts from 10 to 15 mph according to the NOAA prediction. Might have had some at greater speeds. It seemed like a great opportunity to try out the system and the boat sailed great, still had the jib up. Anyone have a system for dropping the jib from the cockpit as a single hander needs to do, and keep the jib on the boat at the same time? Time for a cool change! Sandra(Seawitch #617)

Definately in my backyard. However, I'm back to the SF Bay Area not because I'm still on vacation, but because I'm having to deal with a "project". I looked at the pics and thought about seeing the 23 in person maybe this weekend. That way, if the insides are clean and spiffy, maybe I can get a few good shots for the Photo Site. Howard, The M-23 has been listed on the MSOG site for some time. It was twice auctioned on e-Bay. I thought about it, but my home project list is too long...this year. I could never hide the pay pal transaction. My wife would eviscerate me. I think a lot of folks are hung up on the paint job. A new set of photos and that boat will be history. steve Steve R. Hi Sandra, What you need is a jib down haul. The jib down haul is a thin line - I used a 1/8" Dacron line - tied to the jib halyard snap. Run it down inside the jib hanks, to a small block at the stem fitting and then back to the cockpit. On LEPPO I had some fairleads on deck so running the line was no problem, and I had jam cleats on the port forward side of the cockpit coaming, which would hold it in place. Naturally, you need a jib halyard that you can operate from the cockpit. The routine is then to release the jib halyard, and at the same time haul in on the jib down haul line. The jib will be on deck, and since it's head is held down by the down haul line, it can't go anywhere. Hauling in slightly on your jib sheet will also keep it in place till you can put a gasket on the jib. Connie
