Hi Clint, My recommendatrion is to go with an all stayfast (non-stretch) main halyard and not a rope / wire halyard. Easier to use: You can remove it when you store the boat for the winter without disassembling the mast head fitting If you get wear spots, you can end-for-end the halyard, and keep using it. Connie

I have a set of Mckibbin Rainbow Sails that I think are probably 1982 vintage. They are like a flowery hat on a pretty lady. I sent a picture to Bill so he can add it to his website. I'm repainting and don't know the exact color. Is there a special type of paint? Boat is in dry storage so anti-fouling is not needed. Norm M-15 #172

Replacing an M15 Mast

Clint, I was just about to cover my boat for the winter, but I would be glad to take measurements before I do it. However, I'm not familiar with the hound bolt. Hi Clint, Sorry about the mast. We lost one, boom and sail on a board boat one time. I'm planning on having our boat out this weekend and will take some measurements. Did you really, really lose the mast, like it's on the bottom of the bay? (I've deposited a batten in the bottom of a lake so far, but no masts yet...) If you've got the bits left, you could get all your measurements from the ends, with the possible exception of overall length. Most people find overhanging wires and limbs at the ramp to be the most efficient way to lunch a mast. The resulting L shaped item still leaves a lot that can be measured from. Measuring from the original would be the surest way to get everything in the right place for your boat, as well. Cheers Steve Tyree, P-15 #2098

Mercury inflatables

Anybody familiar with Mercury Inflatable boats? There are some new ones for sale on EBay at wholesale prices. Sale ends in 13 hours. I'm seriously considering one for a dingy. I still use my McKibbin sails after 20 years, and it's true that virtually any sail that isn't torn will move a sailboat through the water, but the difference that new, well cut sails can provide has to be felt to be believed. The increased speed is amazing. I was nowhere near competitive with my McKibbin sails and only picked up enough speed to be in the race when I purchased new ones. Also a new main will let you point much higher than an old baggy one. And "baggy" is a relative word. My McKibbin main doesn't look baggy to the eye, but I can point higher and go much faster with the new main. John Edwards

Hi Gilbert, If it makes you fell any better, the M15 doesn't steer at all when you have removed the rudder and use the outboard for steering. Then you shut it down, and think you can use the outboard as a rudder...... It's a sickening feeling. Tight quarters; boat is moving; and you can't steer................crash! Been there: done that too! Connie
