Dik, I'm a do it yourselfer too but dropping the boat on my body is a scary thought. My trailer has removable keel rollers rather than a plank or channel under the keel stub. My thought, I have not done this, is to jack the whole trailer up and block it securely. It is much easier to block the trailer frame than the slippery boat shape. I will pull the keel rollers and their axles. Then, with other blocking, lower the board. My thought is to refinish it with that POR rust sealer that car restorers use. I doubt that it will work long term though as the boat was wet slipped in warm salt water for years and the salt has likely penetrated the cast iron and will push it apart over time. When salvors raise old iron cannons, they keep them immersed until they can be sealed (I don't know how they do it) to prevent them from swelling up and flaking away. Jerry Montgomery, if your are reading this, have you tooled a board mold for this vintage M 17 yet ?? In my opinion, bronze would be cool but ballasted fiberglass or Foss Foam would be more practical -- lighter weight, the boat does not need more stability, and it would hold antifouling paint. Boat show cruise

I was recently asked if the Annapolis, MD boat show cruise is still on. The answer is YES! Visitors to the area are welcome to join a boat for the Sunday AM snow bird tour! The particulars: 2003 Show Dates: Thursday, October 09, 2003 through Monday, October 13, 2003 Dates: Friday, October 10 - Sunday or Monday October 12, 13 Launch: Sandy Point State Park just off of Rt 40 at the base of the Annapolis Bay Bridge. - good ramps, good overnight parking. Friday night anchorage: Mill Creek off of Whitehall Bay - entrance at Lat 38 deg 59.75, Long 76 deg 27.00' I will not be able to launch until around 4 PM so may arrive at anchorage after dark. VHF radio - Monitor 9, 16, 71 Saturday - Move to back of SPA creek, anchor, take water taxi to boat show. Saturday Anchorage - TBD Sunday - AM - Cruise Back Creek, and/or College Creek checking out the snow bird cruising boats heading south. Take a visitor out for the AM cruise if any takers from the Mlist. Back to ramp Sunday PM Weather forecast is Excellent! Depending on the response I may take Friday off of work and launch on Thursday or take Monday off and stay later. Current count of attendees is 5 boats - 3 M15s and 2 M17s but everyone needs to confirm! If you plan on joining the cruise or would like to crew on the Sunday snow bird tour respond off of the list please.
