Hi Rusty, Stop worrying. The cast iron centerboard rusting and sticking in the CB trunk is an M17 problem. The M15 has a fiberglass board with some lead weight in the bottom to keep it down. If you don't put in the stopper knot to limit the CB travel, the CB will hit the front edge of the CB truck. The CB pivots on a pin. This pin hole in the CB is located at the upper forward edge of the CB. If the CB is allowed to fall without any restraint, then the small area of the CB between pin and leading edge of the CB might break out...................... Not to be recommended. Therefore a stopper knot (I just use a figure eight knot) that then stops the CB from going all the way down and causing damage. Rule No. 1 for a new M15 owner! Now go have fun! Oh, and have you rigged a jib down haul? Makes taking the jib down so much easier: and it stays down! If you haven't, the drill is: About a 3/16" diameter Dacron line that gets fastened to the jib halyard. The line leads down to a small swivel block at the stem fitting, and from there through one or two fair leads back to the cockpit. My M15 has two jam cleats located on the forward face of the cockpit coaming on the port side. When I drop the jib (I single hand most of the time), I release the jib halyard (cleated on the port side of the of the cabin roof), and then haul away on the jib down haul. Jib is on deck and can't go anywhere. Connie

Is the rudder pintles strong enough to put the motor bracket on the rudder, for better steerage, I heard someone had put a boarding step on the rudder so maybe its strong enough??

The bracket came with the boat, so I've never tried the cutout with any motor. But I see from other replies that there might be some interference. I'd say even with the bracket you could manage rudder/prop contact under some extreme circumstances (especially if you're juggling the motor and the rudder at the same time--I guess I'd recommend one or the other, but not both--I've done both, but for me it's disconcerting). My rule of thumb is steering with the rudder with the motor fixed is best because the boat is much more responsive to the rudder than the motor. I also have the older 2 with no clutch, which can make life interesting until you break the code--you get good at manipulating the power head backing up. The nice thing about the 2 is when its throttled down the boat moves slowly and you have time to think about your next move. I might add that without a tiller tamer of some kind to secure the rudder amidships while you maneuver the boat with the motor alone (especially in reverse), you'd be in a world of hurt. Just dry run all the conditions so you know ahead of time what doesn't work, then go slow when you do it for real. Hi Don, At our "Transfer Station", the new fancy title for the Town dump, I picked up some discarded oil containers. I chose the EXXON ones, being a nice bright red, and therefore easy to spot in the sail locker. Mine have been used for about two years now, and there is no problem with swelling due to gasoline expansion. They live in the bottom of my port sail locker, and so stay cool (lake water temperature). If you would like to add a bit of safety, then how about filling them when the outside temperature is cold, and then squeezing the oil container as you put on the cap to remove as much air as possible. Then the gasoline could expand a bit without bulging the container. None of my container has ever bulged. For longer trips with more engine running time, I have built myself a hose with an outboard pump bulb in the line (available from WEST Marine or probably any place selling outboards). Now I can put the 1 gallon tank in the cockpit, put the long end of the hose in the one gallon tank and the bulb with the short hose end is no inserted into the HONDA fuel tank where I can I squeeze the bulb until the tank is filled. No trying to hold a heavy gallon container; no spillage (over a hot engine); - total control of the refueling operation. Connie M15 #400 LEPPO

If the knot is missing from the cb lanyard, the cb is suspended only from the pivot pin at the front of the board. When the board is thus suspended, it acts as a lever on the pin. It doesn't take long for the action of the boat to break the pin out. Many M15 owners have experienced this. The knot must always be in place. Connie's method of lowering the board all the way down, then lifting it a couple inches works fine--you can definitely feel when the board contacts the trunk. Just remember there isn't a lot of centerboard there in the first place, so you don't want to take it back up too far. I think you're right on the older boats Bill. If you look at the photos of new boats on Bob Eeg's site a new M15 on a trailer has a bow eye installed with the trailer winch mounted upside down on mounting bracket.
