My thoughts exactly on the tiller lock! When I get Mighty Mouse home, the first thing that gets installed is a "bungee with jam cleat" tiller tamer! A singlehanders best friend. Chuck M-15 Mighty Mouse (soon to be finished)

Tom Had one on my M-17 and found it very useful...........The 17 is a bit sensitive to balance though, and the tiller tamer is not an auto-pilot. It does give you that needed break from hanging on to the tiller when things are all trimmed up...... Lenny M-23 # 003 Sea Horse

I use a setup similar to Steve Tyree's, except I use two bungee loops with a length of line tied between them. So there's a bungee loop over the port stern cleat with a piece of line between it and the loop on the starboard cleat. No knot tying...just flip the loop over both cleats and it remains taut between until you pull it forward and into the cleat on the underside of the tiller. Easy. Cheap. Dolphin has a strong all-metal device that works well, and is strong enough that if it breaks I'll have other more pressing things to deal with. I use a very simple tiller lock on my P-15 that has served me well. It consists of a long, heavy bungee cord fastened from one stern cleat to the other, and a jam cleat mounted on the underside of the tiller and about 8" forward of the bungee. To use, simply pull the bungee up onto the jam cleat while on course. I've found it easy to micro adjust, and have cruised hands off for upwards of 10 minutes this way. Hey Tom, I had one on my M-17. It worked great! I wouldn't leave the dock without one. There are some produced commercially but the one I liked best was one that had a unit that was located on top of the tiller about one third back from the tip. A line was then fed through this unit and tied off at 45 degree angles back to the transom. What was great was that the tiller unit had a wheel lock on it . When loose, the tiller would move back and forth easily. When you wanted to go forward, you turned the wheel to "lock" the tiller in any part of it's swing. The problem is I haven't been able to locate one. There is also another way with a cleat and some shock cord. Chuck M-15 soon to be finished
