Albrecht, I enjoyed your collection of images named Mandelmania that used your mfr_10.frm formula a lot. You said: > One image is something extra special - check it out. As an experiment I put the two different colorings of the same fractal: 20202-7.GIF and 20202-8C.GIF into two adjacent tabs of my browser, and rapidly switched between viewing each image of the pair. Interestingly, certain areas of each fractal are brought out more clearly in one of the fractals than the other, which became much more apparent when I "blinked" between viewing each of the two images. I just discovered that: 22222-12.GIF and 22222-13.GIF are the same image with *very* different color maps! FOTD -- October 29, 2013 (Rating A-8,M-5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image lies in East Valley of the minibrot in yesterday's image, though at a far deeper level. The magnitude is over 10^34, at a depth where all Mandelbrot minibrots start to look the same, with an endless series of concentric circular rings surrounding them. This sameness seems to spoil many fractals when certain parameters, such as the magnitude, the value of the exponent of Z or the number of different exponents, are taken to the extreme. Today's image, because of its sixteen prominent elements that add variety to the circles, partly escapes this curse of sameness. The rating of a 6 was bestowed because of my coloring, which is basically the same palette that was used in yesterday's image, but with the logmap turned off. The bad news is that the image requires arbitrary precision math, which at this depth slows things to a crawl. The web sites can get the crawling calculation back on its feet however. FOTD -- October 28, 2013 (Rating A-8,M-5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: We return today to the best known fractal of all, the Mandelbrot set, where we check the main stem and find a minibrot on a high- order filament radiating from a series of ever-smaller minibrots. Most of the somber effect is due to my coloring, which earns the art aspect an excellent 6. Since the M-set is the best known of all fractals, the math is so familiar that I could rate the math aspect no higher than a 5. The name "Deep Blue" refers to the heavy color scheme. Yes, my colors do seem to be becoming more depressive lately, but there is nothing much I can do about it, since I am only partly in control of the appearance of the images. (To see a change in the appearance of the image, reset the bailout to 10.) The scene lies deep enough to make arbitrary precision math necessary. This greatly slows the calculation time, but the main stem is a fast area for arbitrary precision math, and the final calculation time of 1-3/4 minutes is well within reason. Mandel Images

HI, there´s a good reason I´m already back: : Is it really possible - more then 20 years millions of people have played with the mandel formula and yet today I come up with images no one has ever seen before? If you look at the Playground folder in the Drop Box there are 4 zooms for the 20202 image, all are unique I would say. Correct me if I´m wrong. The difference of course is the Multifractal "Formula" which places one image inside another or you can also say it adds one complexity to another and the transitions are handled by programmable reset commands so (mostly) no chaos is the result. This image proves that it gains complexity the deeper you zoom and yet you have mandel images. The last one 20202-4 is not a pretty image but more a zooming source. Any feedback is welcome! Albrecht

FOTD 27-10-13 (Fright Night [A-8,M-6])

FOTD -- October 27, 2013 (Rating A-8,M-6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image lies in the parent fractal that results when 3.5 parts of Z^(-1.1) are combined with 0.5 part of Z^(-5.5) before (1/C) is added on each iteration. The default screen view of this parent is little more than a field of unorganized blobs forming a hint of a valley, but two full outzooms reveals a fully formed but quite distorted Mandeloid, with a ring-lined filament extending southeast to where it joins a large ring. Today's scene, with its abundance of sharp bright spikes, lies near the point where this filament joins the large ring. Since the season is one of fright, and sharp things such as daggers and axes are trendy at this time of year, when I saw the scary sharpness in the image, I named it "Fright Night". With a modicum of coloring effort going into the image, its rating is worth an honorable 8. The math worth remains a 6, since the MandAutoCritInZ formula has been doing its thing for over a decade, and has long since lost its math impact. The calculation time of 4 minutes is slow, no denying it, but once again the web sites are on the job, with not only the original image but assorted variations as well.
