FOTD -- October 24, 2014 (Rating A-5,M-6)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image lies in the upper right part of the tail of the
fish that filled the image for October 21. Since we have a
nautical theme going, I named the image "Captain Smedley". I
have never known a Captain Smedley, but I must have heard of one
somewhere. Why else would such a name come to mind?
Actually, the image, which was rendered with the outside set to
'tdis', is far too busy, and rates no more than a lowly 5. The
math rates a 6, which is a little better but not enough to
celebrate.
Unfortunately, with a calculation time of 7-1/2 minutes, the
image is a slow one. But this time may be saved by viewing the
finished image on the web sites.

Tons of sun and a temperature of 68F 20C made today one to be
remembered here at Fractal Central. Unfortunately, the fractal
cats had forgotten the day by the time the sun went down. The
humans, who routinely enjoyed the day, did nothing worth
reporting.
The next FOTD will be posted in two or three days. Until
whenever it does appear, take care, and what should we fear the
most this Halloween -- ghosts, radical terrorists, zombies,
an ebola epidemic, witches, an asteroid impact, werewolves, mass
shootings, vampires, or the government?

HI,
have deleted yesterday´s item Hurricane3p and replaced it.
It now has an exciting fourth part.
After some testing I succeeded to generate a true
pendulum effect with thesis-antithesis or phrase and
replica. I used different harmonics left/right
and all voices - you may have noticed that they always
have a left and right edition - are seperated by exactly 5 phases.
A phase is the time needed to generate a note for a
single voice.
It sounds so natural that you may not notice unless
you know what to listen to, or you detect that your head
moves to the rhythm.
It is the fourth part with double length, 60 measures.
;
I dont expect any reactions again, maybe too many
people still have a prejudice against fractal music,
so I´ll move to another suitable forum if possible.

HI,
here is a new basic rhythm pattern for my music.
Not completely new, that would have taken a
longer time but some efficient modifications.
The source image is one of my MFR10 originals.
The IFS used is the well known Sierpinski with
its "rhythmical" structure.
The 128 measures long mp3 has no interrupts or
changes to exhibit the infinite rhythm flow.
It is pure percussion as you may guess from the
title (thanks, Bill) and good for dancing or
your morning workout. It has the typical ups and
downs of a storm - or strain and relaxing.
Note: This is another chapter of my musical history

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's double-six rated image lies in the parent fractal that
appears when 0.355 parts of Z^4 are subtracted from Z^3 on each
iteration before straight C is added. This parent consists of a
fairly normal appearing Mandelbrot set rotated 180 degrees, with
large bays at the end of the main filaments. The largest bay,
located at the end of the main spike, is mostly filled with a
large fragment of a kind of East Valley.
I consider this valley fragment strange because it is filled
with curiously shaped minibrots, some of which are quadratic,
others cubic, and still others of the 6th degree. The valley
also abounds with minibrots that fit into no category, much like
the weird fishy one in today's image.
I named the image "Pisces Ascending" because of the obvious
fish-shaped minibrot swimming to the left. Pisces is the
Astrological sign of the zodiac that the sun passes through in
the month of March. Astrology is considered a superstitious
pseudo-science by those who know that the distant planets could
have no measurable effect on the fortunes and characteristics of
people on Earth. At the same time, it is known to be a true
science by those who spend their lives calculating horoscopes.
As for myself, I'm somewhere in the middle.
The calculation time of 1-3/4 minutes will pass faster than
Madam Zucchini can cast a horoscope. It's in the stars that the
only thing faster is the trip to the FOTD web sites to view the
finished image.

A mix of clouds and sun with a temperature of 61F 16C brought
out the best in the fractal cats and humans here at Fractal
Central today. The next in the infinite series of FOTD images
will be posted in time. Until the exact time becomes revealed,
take care, and the world would be a peaceful place if it were
not for the other side.

HI,
:
after a long time of silence I´m back again with a new project.
After my Multifractal Project which has remained unique as it
still is the only software creating fractals using up to five
formulas simultaneously here is my Fractal Music project, possibly
the only one which deserves that name, there are some details
they have in common:
:
It uses a single algorithm to automatically create music of
theoretically indefinite size which never repeats itself.
The rhythm is my own definition of an endless shifting rhythm
originally inspired by Steve Reich ("Drumming") and Terry
Riley ("In C") and on their side by African native music for
instance by the pygmies.
:
The melodies- of course being the other half of the structure
"shifting melodies" - are created using pixels of a Bitmap (BMP)
fractal, which is scanned using the dots and lines of a freely
designed IFS fractal.
:
The basic software - in and out and conversion of a pixel
into musical parameters of a single note - originates in
the nineties, author David Strohbeen and is not
available anymore.
:
In addition to the image the music is influenced to a high
degree by the IFS fractal used, a pyramid for instance creates
a harder rhythmic structure, a spiral a softer melodic
structure. Listening closely and relaxed you may well find
that the general atmosphere of the music is that of the
originating fractal.
:
I converted Jim´s "End of the World" image, FOTD Aug27,
loved it at first glance. Thanks for that, Jim.
Including links of the WAV files - mp3 is not satisfactory -
and the original MID files. Be careful when using Midi:
The sound depends on the fonts used and therefore maybe
disapointing. The soundfont used is WeedsGM3, google for it.
Use only a player that does not change the parameters.
The creative player destroys the music, Winamp is ok.

FOTD -- October 20, 2014 (Rating A-6,M-6)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image comes from the same parent fractal as yesterday's,
but today's image is located along the northern shore line of
the northwestern clover leaf, which is a totally different area
of the parent.
I named the image "Scalloped Elements". I originally intended
to name it 'Scalloped Elephants' but the scene lies nowhere near
any kind of East Valley and I could find no elephants, either
proto or fully developed, in it.
The art and math both rate a 6, which is just far enough above
average to make the image worth a look. The calculation time of
2-1/4 minutes will make running the parameter file only a small
expenditure of time. And the web sites can save most of this
time.
So save time by checking the finished image at:

The mix of sun and clouds with a temperature of 59F 15C was
close to normal for middle to late October here at Fractal
Central. The fractal cats and fractal humans had too many other
tasks to finish to be concerned with the weather.
The next FOTD will be posted in a matter of a day or two. Until
whenever, take care, and live life to the fullest. After all,
we only go around a few thousand times.

HI,
to illustrate my comments about the
IFS part in my music I have created
a new mp3 "Tranquillity" which uses
the Contemplation image again but with
a new Ifs which produced a much more
gentle sound.
The previous IFS "Swirl5" is added to
the MOTD 1211014 folder to show the
difference.
The music is of the quiet kind
and not interrupted to let you dream...

FOTD -- October 19, 2014 (Rating A-6,M-6)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image is named "The Warm Fuzzies". The term usually
refers to pleasant feelings of close friendship, but in today's
FOTD it refers to the fuzzy appearance of the image when seen
from a distance.
The parent fractal was created when I subtracted 3 parts of
Z^(-4.9) from 9 parts of Z^(-1.9) on each iteration before
adding (1/C). This parent consists of three large circular bays
arranged like a clover leaf with a fourth bell-shaped bay
attached to the eastern leaf. Today's scene lies near a tiny
bud on the north shore line of the eastern clover leaf.
Both the art and math rate a 6, since I can see nothing really
memorable in the image. The calculation time of 3 minutes
borders on slowness. So for peace of mind don't hesitate to
check the finished image on one of the web sites.
For complete peace, check the finished image at:

<http://user.xmission.com/~legalize/fractals/fotd/about.html>
A mix of sun and clouds, a brisk west wind and a temperature of
52F 11C brought a taste of autumn to the Fractal Central area
today. The fractal cats enjoyed the conditions from indoors.
The only disturbance was in the late morning when Lady Lida
leaped from the armchair onto He-man Nicholas, who was sleeping
on the floor below her, causing Nicholas to leap up in surprise,
give her a mighty hiss and chase her up the hallway. The humans
spent the day pondering the world's craziness.
The next FOTD will be posted when it is ready and I think the
time is proper. Until then, take care, and if one of the current
crises leads to the total extinction of mankind, what would be so
bad about that?
