FOTD -- October 17, 2014 (Rating A-7,M-5)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
When I saw today's finished image I was reminded of a nearby
fruit stand run by a local farmer. I named the image "Farmer's
Market" accordingly. Actually, the image lies in the parent
fractal that results when 10.5 parts of Z^(-1.1) are combined
with 1.2 parts of Z^(-5.5) on each iteration before (1/C) is
added.
This parent is a notable fractal by itself -- a grossly
oversized circular island in the middle of an infinite ocean
with three large buds arranged symmetrically around its
perimeter. Today's scene lies in the valley leading to a
smaller, irregularly shaped bud on the eastern shore line of the
parent.
The art rates a 7. We have seen better quite often. The math
rates a mediocre 5. The math trick is over a decade old.
The calculation time of 2-3/4 minutes is near FOTD average. To
do better than average, try the web sites.
The FOTD web sites are online at:

<http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html>

Lots of sun, puffy white clouds and temperature of 70F 21C made
today's weather here at Fractal Central near perfect. The cats
and humans took as much pleasure as possible from the fine
conditions.
The next FOTD will be posted before too long, very possibly
tomorrow. Until whenever, take care, and what is everyone so
worried about?

FOTD -- October 16, 2014 (Rating A-8, M-7)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image is named "Ever-Burning Lamp". In legend, the
ancient mystical Rosicrucians, among others, possessed lamps
that would burn forever, at least in enclosed spaces such as the
tombs of their great spiritual leaders. I don't know about
those infinitely efficient lamps, but something in today's image
reminded me of the legends.
The parent fractal is the four-dimensional Z^2+C Julibrot. The
location is in the Scepter Valley area as it appears when
rotated halfway between the Mandelbrot and Oblate orientations.
A good part of the scene consists of blank inside areas made
visible by the bof61 inside fill. The art value rates an 8,
mostly due to my semi-expert coloring talents. The math rates a
7, since these four-dimensional rotations are interesting, but
hardly new stuff.
The calculation time of 2-1/4 minutes is about average. Some
time may be saved by visiting the web sites.
Try viewing the finished image on the internet at:

A mix of clouds and sun with a temperature of 66F 19C made today
unmemorable here at Fractal Central. The fractal cats forgot
the day before it was half over. The humans still remember it,
but will not for long.
The next FOTD will be posted in a day or two. Until then, take
care, and those who are taken in by the media scare agenda and
run around in a state of panic as ordered by their media
overlords should display their hysteria in a spectacular manner.
Those who see through the media agenda and are not taken in by
it will enjoy watching the panic-stricken multitudes on TV.

HI,
the title immediately came to my
mind so accepted without further
consideration.
It took a long time to find the
colormap that suits best. It´s one
of Jim´s. Thank You!
It has no real symmetry if you look
closely, but even within outside spots
almost symmetrical jewels are hidden.

HI,
the title is justified because
that?s the impression it relays.
The Secant formula is not easy
to handle and quite often it rejects
to be mixed with other ones so subtle
editing is essential.
Note that most of my images have a
genuine symmetry and dont use cuts
or splits. In short they are
homogeneous, which produces a
more satisfying result.

FOTD -- October 15, 2014 (Rating A-8,M-5)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
The formula behind today's image subtracts 11 parts of Z^(2.1)
from 11 parts of Z^(1.9) on each iteration before adding
straight (C). This combination produces a parent fractal
resembling a Mandelbrot set rotated 180 degrees with a bay where
its East Valley should be and a main spike that splits into two
parts at the large minibrot, which itself is partly split.
Today's scene is located in a remnant of East Valley.
The name "Flower of Power" seem appropriate. The eight
brilliant red petals certainly do resemble a large flower.
Most of the effect of a flower blossom was created by rendering
the scene with the inside set to 'bof61'. The calculation time
of 4-1/2 minutes borders on slowness. To cure this problem
check the web sites.
This cure may be found at:
<http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html>
<http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html>
<http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/>
<http://user.xmission.com/~legalize/fractals/fotd/about.html>
Heavy clouds and torrential showers of rain spoiled the day here
at Fractal Central. The temperature of 73F 23C remained quite
comfortable however, not that anyone took advantage of the
mildness. During the heaviest rain, the fractal cats went to
the window to see what all the fuss was about. The fractal
humans checked the basement to see how much water was seeping
in, and found things dry.
The next FOTD will be posted in a matter of a day or two. Until
whenever, take care, and whatever the problem, high-tech will
hopefully ride to the rescue. But what if hi-tech lays an egg?

FOTD -- October 14, 2014 (Rating A-8,M-5)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image is named "In a Petri Dish". I gave it this name
in recognition of the current germ scare filling the TV news
channels. The image, with its sickly brown and greenish colors,
does remind me somewhat of a disgusting culture growing in a
petri dish in some secret biological laboratory.
But actually, it's nothing more than a scene in the parent
fractal that results when 0.72 part of Z^(1.4) is combined with
0.72 part of Z^(-1.4) and (1/C) is added on each iteration.
This parent consists of a large figure-8-shaped bay, with a
symmetrical ring of debris filling both branches. Today's image
lies in the debris making up the southern part of this ring.
The image itself is rather striking, which justifies the
artistic rating of an 8. The math is old hat however, and could
be rated no higher than a 5.
The calculation time of 2-1/2 minutes is about FOTD average,
neither surprisingly fast nor disappointingly slow. And as
always, the web sites will make the viewing simpler.
View the image effortlessly on the FOTD web sites at:

Lots of clouds and occasional bursts of sun made today's weather
undecidable here at Fractal Ccentral. The unusually mild
temperature of 75F 24C was pleasant enough, but the brisk breeze
occasionally became annoying. The fractal cats, happy despite
the weather, slept and played most of the day, while the humans
tended to human things.
The next FOTD, hopefully germ free, will be posted in a
reasonable time. Until reason prevails, take care, and stay germ
free.

Maybe. Now that you mention it Fractint was originally DOS. Ill check.
Thanks,
Tony

Hmmm ... didn't someone on the list have Fractint running under a DOS
emulator on a smartphone or tablet?
