Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's generating formula is Z^(PHI)+C iterated PHI levels up
the hyperspiral by the Mandelbrot4BC formula. PHI of course is
the 'golden ratio', where the ratio of 'a' to 'b' is the same as
'a+b' to 'c'.
The parent fractal created by all this is little more than a
large shapeless bay stretched out northwest to southeast, with a
prominent period-3 bud on the southern side but no period-2 bud
at all. Today's scene is located in a small patch of debris on
the western side of the northern half of the bay.
Feeling generous, I rated the art aspect at a 7. Since the math
trick is worn out by this time, I could rate the math no higher
than a 6.
The calculation time is quite fast, finishing in only one brief
minute on a SOTA machine not afraid of DOS. The web sites are
ready to eliminate all traces of computer fear.

Heavy clouds are covering the Fractal Central area today, with
rain expected by nightfall. The lowering conditions are not
worrying the fractal humans or cats however, since we have more
important things to do.
The next FOTD will be posted in either two or three days. Until
whenever, take care, and one day fractals might save the earth.

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image is named "Epsilon in Epsilon" for the same reason
that yesterday's image was named "PI in PI". Epsilon is an
irrational number equally as important as PI, though its
importance is more difficult to explain. Epsilon is the base of
the natural logarithm. This is easy enough to state, but it is
more difficult to explain why epsilon should have been chosen as
a logarithmic base. Among other advantages, epsilon simplifies
the task of calculating logarithmic derivatives.
The image was generated by the formula Z^(e)+C as calculated (e)
levels up the hyperladder. This combination creates a parent
fractal shaped like a Mandelbrot set with two period-2 buds and
two East Valleys. Today's scene lies in the southern East
Valley.
The over-busy effect was achieved by rendering the image with
the outside set to 'tdis'.
Both the art and math ratings are a normal 7.
The calculation time of 4 minutes is rather slow. Thankfully,
the web sites will bring relief.

A cloudy but mild day passed unappreciated here at Fractal
Central. The temperature of 66F 19C was actually a couple
degrees above normal for early October in Central Pennsylvania,
but both the fractal cats and fractal humans were occupied with
too many other things to enjoy the mildness.
The next FOTD will probably be posted in 24 hours. If not, it
will appear in three days on October 12, since we, the fractal
humans, will be back at old Fractal Central on the 11th. Until
whenever, take care, and I'm so worried about so many things
that I'll have to run out and buy all the sponsors' products.

PI is the delicious dessert that mother used to bake. It is
also the 16th letter of the Greek alphabet, and also the
transcendental number 3.14159..., which is ratio of the
circumference of a circle to its diameter. And PI is also 200
radians, which is an angle of 180 degrees or half of a complete
rotation. In today's case, PI is strictly for fun.
Today's image shows some of what happens in the fractal that is
created when the expression Z^(PI)+C is iterated PI levels up
the hyperladder. This parent itself appears as a shapeless blob
with an obvious split along the X-axis and mis-shapen buds all
along its convoluted edges.
Today's scene lies in the chaos surrounding a small bud in the
northeast quadrant of the parent. I named the image PI in PI
because of the double PI in its parameters.
The art rates a perhaps overblown 6, while the math comes in at
a 7. The calculation time of a speedy 30 seconds will cause no
one any distress. And the web sites can cut even this time.

Lots of clouds filled the sky here at Fractal Central today, but
enough sun got through to leave the impression of a fair day.
The mild temperature of 68F 20C actually made things rather
pleasant. The three dynamic fractal cats slept through most of
the afternoon but were quite frisky in the evening. The humans
had another in an endless string of uneventful days.
The next FOTD will be posted. This is all I can say at the
moment. Until whenever, take care, and those who say their
prayers at night will get their PI in the sky bye and bye.

FOTD -- October 06, 2014 (Rating A-7,M-6)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
When I was in the 5th grade, Sister Frances asked me what I
wanted to be when I grew up. I told her I wanted to be a
scientist. At that time I pictured a scientist as a man in a
white coat working feverishly in his laboratory, on the verge of
a great discovery, surrounded by bottles and tubes filled with
strange chemicals, with a lot of electric equipment, especially
a Jacob's Ladder, humming (wastefully) in the background. When
sister then asked me what kind of scientist, I replied 'just a
plain scientist'. Things sure were simpler around the middle of
the 20th Century, when fractals were not yet even dreamed of.
In today's more complex world, filled with fractals, I find my
enthusiasm for generic 'science' woefully lacking, but that does
not deter me from my interest in fractals. The image for today
lies in the parent fractal that comes about when the expression
Z^(1.9)+C is iterated 5 levels up the hyperspiral. This parent
resembles a Mandeloid rotated 180 degrees. Curiously, instead
of its period-2 bud being swallowed along the negative X-axis,
it has two prominent period-2 buds, one on the northeast side of
the large bay, the other partially cut off on the east side.
Today's scene lies in the northwest branch of the 'seahorse'
type valley enclosing the northeast bud.
The name "Scientific Wonder" is ironic. It refers to the
disillusionment with science that I have developed over the
years. The ratings of the art and math are everyday average,
since I can see little in the image to get worked up about.
The calculation time however is unusually fast. One minute is
all that is needed to finish the job on one of today's SOTA
units able to run DOS. Those with DOS challenged machines may
find their satisfaction on the FOTD web sites.

Morning clouds gave way to a sunny afternoon with a temperature
of 68F 20C here at Fractal Central today. The three fractal
cats, all-black 11-1/2-year-old Nicholas, all-black 13-month-old
Jasmine and the 6-1/2-month-old tabby Lida, enjoyed the warm and
brilliant sun on the southwest window shelf. The humans were
far too busy to enjoy the sun.
The next FOTD will be posted in record time. Since there are no
previous records to refer to, this means nothing. Until
whenever, take care, and organize your worries. Worry about war
on Sundays, disease on Mondays, terrorism on Tuesdays, financial
collapse on Wednesdays, climate change on Thursdays, an asteroid
strike on Fridays, and a years-long electric blackout on
Saturdays. Hey, we're out of days and there are still a lot of
things that we need to worry about.

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
In my opinion, the minibrot at the center of today's image looks
like it is surrounded by dragon claws. Maybe it is; maybe not,
but whatever, this is what I decided to name the image.
The image was created by the expression Z^(sqrt(2))+C as
iterated 31 levels down the logarithmic hyperspiral by the
Mandelbrot4BC formula, which might be a new one, at least on the
Fractint list.
The parent fractal is a vague Mandelbrot thing with a prominent
period-2 bud but few other buds. A long meandering filament
extends northward from this bud's radical, with today's image
lying near the extremity of this filament.
The art rates a 6; the math rates a 5. This is all I could give
the image, which suffers from a lack of the fractalist's
efforts. But with all the other things happening here at FC,
this lack is excusable.
The calculation time of 30 seconds is about as brief as we ever
see in FOTD images. Those who would like an even briefer delay
may check the web sites.

Autumn weather prevailed here at Fractal Central today, with
dark lumpy clouds drifting past on brisk west winds and a
temperature of 57F 14C. The fractal cats showed signs of going
into winter curl-up mode, while the humans took the increasing
chill in stride.
The next FOTD image will appear in a day or maybe a few days.
Until whenever, take care, and be careful.
