Hi Roger, This parset you posted on 13-Apr-2010 references formula EpsilonCross, but includes formula EpsilonCrossJ. Are the names for both correct, but the wrong formula was included in the post, or is one of the names incorrect? Thanks! -- Hi Richard, I went to my blog and downloaded the gif and recreated it in Fractint. Fractint displayed "EpsilonCross" when doing the formula search but the formula screen ( press the "Z" key) and the <Tab> key display shows EpsilonCrossJ being generated. I've made a new par for the fractal and renamed the formula. FOTD -- September 08, 2010 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is a scene in the Seahorse Valley area of the HyperMandelbrot set. The Hypermandelbrot set consists of two overlapping classic M-sets, which coincide perfectly as long as all parameters are set to zero. When the parameters are changed however, the sets become offset and begin covering each other. When different parts of the two sets occupy the same coordi- nates, the part with the lesser iteration count always prevails. This gives some interesting effects, as today's image shows. With the imag(p4) parameter in the formula set to 0.00000001, the two sets are offset to only a slight degree, but the image magnitude of over 10,000,000 is so great that the slight offset has a large effect. The two overlapping minibrots, which are actually the same minibrot appearing twice, have obscured large parts of themselves. The surrounding patterns also suffer with this identity mix-up, but everywhere, the parts with the least iteration count always prevail. I named the image "No Warpage Here". When I first saw the image, it appeared skewed, but when I checked, I found it to be perfectly straight. The name reflects the discovery. The rating of an 8 is well above the average 5 or 6. The calculation time of 6-1/2 minutes is a bit on the dragging side. FOTD and two fractals

Had a bit of trouble with the FOTD 09-04-10 Common-Sense_Cubic. Fractint said it couldn't read the coloring information so I used the classic Fractint "blues" map (which comes with the distribution zip) and it looks great. In other news I may have solved the gif to png conversion problem. I used the brute force method of setting up a Flickr account. Hope it works. Oooo look at that fractal its so bright and shiny. FOTD 07-09-10 (Seahorse in Distress [7])

FOTD -- September 07, 2010 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's diversion takes us to a very familiar place -- Seahorse Valley of the Mandelbrot set. But today we see it in a new light. The view is oriented halfway between the Oblate and Rectangular directions, and also rotated one degree from the normal. At this strange angle only part of the M-set can be seen, stretched over 50 times in the horizontal direction. In today's image I unstretched the Mandelbrot part far enough to leave it only about 16 times its natural width. The remnants of the Mandelbrot aspect of Seahorse Valley are found near the center of the frame, colored baby pink, much as a newly-born seahorse might be. The rest of the pink stuff is the distorted M-set, with the western part of the main bay on the right and the eastern part of the large period-2 bud on the left. The foreground stuff is lesser-iteration stuff, which I inaccurately call Julia stuff, since it is found in all planes, including the Mandelbrot. The rating of a 7 seems about right. I put some extra effort into the coloring, though not as much as the image could use. The name "Seahorse in Distress" refers to the pink Mandelbrot part of the image, which, even after some unsquashing, still looks quite flattened. The calculation time of 1-3/4 minutes is fast by any standards. The finished image is posted on the FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> I was a bit relieved when FL arrived back from Havre de Grace safe and unharmed just before noon on Monday, though I had to listen to a half-hour of tales of the big 2-day wedding festival. The Monday weather conditions here at FC were near perfect, with lots of sun, a temperature of 81F 27C and low humidity. The fractal cats must have been worried about FL's absence. When they heard her car pull into the driveway, they leaped up and ran to the door to meet her. The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. FOTD 06-09-10 (Sign of Shame [No Rating])

FOTD -- September 06, 2010 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: FL decided to stay a second day in Havre de Grace on Sunday, so I spent another day by myself, watching TV and finding fractals. I must have spent too much time by the TV, for today's fractal is not one of the best. I never rate fractals that I put almost no effort into. Since today's image is one of these, I let it go without a rating. The parent fractal was created by calculating Z^(sqrt(3))+C at a level of 3 rungs up the infinite ladder. Today's scene is located, as most interesting images are, in a valley of its parent. The name "Sign of Shame" has little to do with the image. It could be an admission of guilt however. I certainly have been guilty of enjoyable laziness these past two days. The calculation time of only 2-2/3 minutes will pass un-noticed, though I cannot guarantee total satisfaction when the calcula- tion is finished. But near-total satisfaction may always be found on the FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> where the image may be viewed without the need for calculation. The preview of autumn continued here at Fractal Central on Sunday. The dark, lumpy clouds were still there, though we had a little more sun, and the temperature stopped at 70F 21C. The fractal cats spent the day waiting for the pigeons to return. With FL still away, my day was very lazy. The next FOTD will be posted in 8 hours if all goes well, if not, then we'll see. Today's fractal, a product of Fractint's built in lambdafn formula, repeats yesterday's theme of frost. The fern like outline parallels the shape of frost on a windowpane and the cool blue palette suggests the chill. FOTD 05-09-10 (Deep in Somewhere [5])

FOTD -- September 05, 2010 (Rating 5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: With FL out of town on Saturday, I had Fractal Central to myself for the whole day. I took advantage of the opportunity by doing nothing, though I did take a quick trip to the Mandelbrot set to find today's FOTD. The image is a scene in the Seahorse Valley of a minibrot on the filament extending from the period-2 bud on the north side of the main bay of the larger minibrot at -1.417 on the main spike of the Mandelbrot set. The seahorse attributes of the location are quite apparent. The rating of a 5 indicates that I could take the image or leave it. Actually, I took it, since it was the only one I found for September 5. The name "Deep in Somewhere" came about when I forgot exactly where in the M-set I had found the scene and had to back-track to pinpoint its position. The calculation time of 33 seconds will pass in a flash. The most enjoyable way to see the image however is to visit the FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> where the finished version is posted. The image may also be calculated using arbitrary precision math. But this will prolong the calculation time near 500 times to an incredible 4 hours, resulting, after all that effort, in only a barely noticeable increase in quality. Saturday turned breezy and cooler here at Fractal Central, with a sky filled with dark lumpy clouds and only intermittent sun. The temperature of 73F 23C must have been just right for the fractal cats, who were unusually active, chasing each other up and down the long hallway for several hours. With FL away at a wedding, my day was inactive. I had intended to get a lot done, but laziness won out and I spent most of the time watching TV and philosophizing to myself. The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and if every human mind is a unique self-aware individual- ity, how many different unique individualities would be possible given infinite resources? If there is no limit, then what is the chance of my ever having come into existence in the first place?
