I just got a big pile of new records, so I'm not ready to commit
there. But I live in Colorado Springs & I'm guessing I will not see
another great live show this year.
Top 10 live concerts:
Boredoms (Vooredoms?)/Jackie-O Motherfucker, Slim's, San Francisco
Merzbow, All Tomorrow's Parties, UCLA, Los Angeles
The Dead C, All Tomorrow's Parties, UCLA, Los Angeles
Tony Conrad, All Tomorrow's Parties, UCLA, Los Angeles
Jerome Noetinger/Lionel Marchetti, some chilly warehouse space, the name of
which escapes me, San Francisco
Comets on Fire/The Sermon, The Parkside, San Francisco
Burkhard Stangl/Dieb13/Billy Roisz, Colorado College, Colorado Springs
Coachwhips/Tussle, Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco
1 song - "Soul Typecast" - out of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's entire
set, Bluebird Theater, Denver. The rest was mediocre, and openers The Yeah
Yeah Yeahs suck ass. The Blues Explosion were once a fantastic, inspired,
and unique live band, and it's sad to see 'em settle into a merely-OK band,
particularly when they can still turn an old chestnut into such a raging
guitar-duel monster.
and I'm pretty sure that excellent Cecil Taylor concert at Colorado College
was in March of this year, so unless Matt Wirzbicki embarrasses me by
letting me know it was in fact November of '01, that makes 10. Whew!
