any thoughts on the new sachiko m/ami yoshida album on erstwhile? i found it a little disappointing... it just sounds as some crazy girl is fooling around with a bad microphone... i'm familiar with some of yoshida's work (through the improvised music from japan box set) and really liked her part in yoshihide's ensemble cathode! and as for sachiko m i don't even need to praise her, her work speaks for itself... but this album... maybe my expectations were set too high, i don't know, but they just seem... bad... any thoughts? davidfelix

Hi, Hm, no comments on "Scientist At Work" by Frank London? As far as I know, this is the first time ever that Zorn has done a CD only of remixing and overdubbing someone else's work, so I expected more interest here on the list. At least this seems to be one case where Zorn isn't just mindlessly repeasting himself as people have complained about "Filmworks XXXVVVIII" and the essential "Masada live in Zorn's Kitchen vol. 78"... Slider

The Slider is a great album. I like it a lot better than 'Electric Warrior.' It seems 'The Slider' captures the whole T-Rex greatness - the production is great, the songs are great, and it is really an unique recording. any thoughts on the new sachiko m/ami yoshida album on erstwhile? i was kind of disappointed by it... it just sounds like a crazy girl fooling around with a bad mike... i've heard ami yoshida on the improvised music from japan cds and it sounds so much better! and sachiko i don't even have to mention... i haven't heard any of her solo material yet, but maybe she just needs some powerful partner (like otomo or nakamura) to really shine... davifelix

Since his music is so personal, I believe Zorn & Co. could be the right musicians to re-arrange it and make it last in time as instrumental. He really deserves it. RE:Lajko (and Ferus)

Well, Lajko is part of the Hungarian minority that lives in Vojvodina,Northern Serbia. I met him once and he is great to chat with. It is interesting that all he ever does is improvise and that sounds amazing. His solo stuff is fantastic and it sounds more classical violin rather than hungarian folk violin. Also worth checking is some projects he did with Boris Kovac. Another great musician is Ferus Mustafov (Ferus the King) for whom I know that Dave Douglas loves his work. Has anyone heard of Ferus Mustafov? Best Nenad

For the record, I must say that Marc Bolan is a glam rock genius (as far as glam rock geniuses go that is). The tribute album is worth getting, but not as cool as the original glam. Also, where the hell is Lurie. He must be depressed or something. I believe I remember seeing his name somewhere on some new movie soundtrack somewhere.
