First, your Hiper ARC has lost it's configuration. Can you not type an "N" to get a prompt? If not, restart the thing, and when you see the "HiPer Access Router Boot Configuration" menu, try and type something. If you can't type anything there, then your serial cable isn't working. Second, on the NMC - don't have a clue, but you might try removing the debug jumper toward the front of the card and see if starts then. Also - I've found that a serial cable that's wired wrong, or the wrong port settings for your serial port, can cause either the ARC or the NMC to hang indefinitely until you remove the serial cable. Once you confirm that your serial cable is working on the ARC, then plug it into the NMC and see if works better. - Joel -----Original Message----- From: Mike Adkins [mailto:tci@glis.cc] Sent: Monday, March 31, 2003 8:28 PM To: usr-tc@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [USR-TC] Help!! And it just sits there.

Hi Joel, I am pretty sure the cable is working ok. It works fine on another unit, I have verified the port speed and tried the debug jumper.. It seems that the unit is locking up at a certain point. I don't know what to do at this point.. ----- Original Message ----- From: Joel - Fox Computers To: Discussion relating to the 3Com/US Robotics Total Control modemsystems. One big thing I've noticed is that serial ports set for higher than 19200 usually generate garbled screens. I've seen garbage on two laptops with different serial cables and the only cure was to slow the cards down to 9600. I've tried hyperterminal and minicom (Windows and Linux) and the only sure fire cure was slow the ports down. I would set the serial port jumpers on the NMC/ARC to 9600 until you can verify that the rest of the 'stuff' is working. -- Paul Farber Farber Technology farber@admin.f-tech.net Ph 570-628-5303 Fax 570-628-5545 On Mon, 31 Mar 2003, Joel - Fox Computers wrote:
