What do you think, which hardware is best for dialup (dialin ppp) over digital lines (E1/T1)? (I mean real connection rates, good CLI, support, free software upgrade/downloads, etc.)

OSPF

I have decided to change from static routing on my router to letting my TC's tell my router how to route what they have. Anyone have any real gotcha's on OSPF? I really know nothing of OSPF but am in the middle of reading up on it now. My router manufacturer suggested I use it over RIP. I have gone through the steps I found at the knowledge base and all seems to be ready although I have not done the crypto keys yet. This is a spare router card so it isn't plugged into the network as yet. The NMC would have nothing to do with 'leaking' ip pools on your Hiper ARC. You do not even need to have an NMC in your chassis. I would just upgrade your ARC Code. (64/8 flash -> 4.3 / 128/16 -> 4.5). Confused? If your ARC is only 64mb RAM and 8mb Flash, it can only support up to 4.3. I know in 4.1 or 4.2 they fixed the problem with the leaky pool ... they didn't even have to resurface it, just put the plug in it :) (morning humor). TCM 4.7 486 NMC

Hello, Does anyone have TCM 4.7 working with 486 NMC? I am currently on TCM 4.0, but I have trouble with 'leaking' ip pool on HiPer Arc. Eventaully I need to reboot ARCs to clear up the problem. Thanks, -- Igor

Don't have a solution - but sharing my experience: First, dialing into a Hiper DSP, I always get 45K+, so I have to restrict my modem to V34 in order to do this. When I do, If I dial into an analog quad modem on a POTS line, I ALWAYS get 33600 for a connection. Dialing into my Hiper DSP's, same phone line, same computer, same modem, (when limited to V34) I can only get 26400. I've always assumed that it had to do with some loss of analog quality in the telco's AD conversion. But would be interested if any one does have a solution a solid reason as to why this is. I've suspected that the same quality-loss issue is responsible for the fact that I'm only getting 45-49K rather than 53K. At first, I thought it was DSP-related, but I don't think so. When dialing into my DSP's from another town 30 miles away (different telco) I can connect at 53333 every single time, with the same modem that only gets 45-49K here locally. In theory, I'm guessing that the other telco has better AD conversion. My problem is the customers that live close to our building can connect faster than 33.6 which is a good thing, but customers who live further out, connect at speeds of 28.8 or 26k or even slower. Those customers who connect slower when dialing in to this new modem pool, could connect at 31.2 or 28.8 when dialing in to the older v.34 quad analog chassises. My question is why do I have a down grade in speed moving up to newer faster equipment? Now the quad analog/digital v.34 modems have pots lines connected to the back of them. The hiper dsp cards have T1's connected to them for providing dial tone. The connection rate does not improve or degrade any. Again, how can I get my customers who are able to dial in to the older total control chassises and connect at 31.2 , dial in to the new chassis and connect at the same speed or better. We got trunking to one Brookly EO fixed once with ATT Local as the CLEC. USR Radius Attributes...

Does anyone know where there is documentation on the meaning for various radius attributes? I'm interested in "USR-Chasis-Call-(Slot, span, channel). These do not seem to be what I hoped for (T1 timeslot info). I would like to start filling my call history database with information pertaining to what channel on what T1 a call came in on. The phone company seems to be screwing with my lines again, and I need to tell them which line it is. Calls are dropping.. slow connects, and such. Last time this happened, we called the telco, and they found an "incorrect setting that was changed a few days ago". Why they'd change something without having a work request or notifying us is beyond me.. We're also getting alot of v32Terbo connects as opposed to v90. In this day and age, I'd expect more v90s... Perhaps one or two of my modems arnt up to date? (We have 12 quad modem cards, and 2 HiperDSP cards in one chasis). The NMC card dies after about 2 days of uptime, so we can't always get snmp info.. - - - Jon Myers The Circuit's Edge (ISP)
