How to physically tell an 8Meg HiPer-ARC from a 16Meg?

Is there a way to physically tell an 8Meg HiPer-ARC from a 16Meg? I am trying to determine which card one of our suppliers has, but he does not have a chassis to plug it into. -Wayne

Hi Timothy, After experimentation on several diferent RAS'es, I finally determined that it just doesn't work this way as far as a secondary radius server goes. I wanted the same thing - have it try the first one then if it can't authenticate there, go try the second. But as I figured out, the secondary is there only if the first server fails to respond at all. If it gets any kind of response from the first (success/failure) it will never try the secondary. Secondary RADIUS authentication server.

Since everybody gave good compliments to VOP RADIUS, I am playing with the demo. Since I cant just unplug my current RADIUS server yet, is there anyway to have the Arc try the primary server then check the secondary server. Basically I created a unique user on the secondary server (one that is not on the primary server) so that I can experiment. But from what I can tell the Arc never even tries the secondary server it just has me retry my password, and I see the failed logins on the primary servers logs, but I never see anything on the secondary servers logs. TC hub and Cistron Radius Problem

I just found out our Cistron radius server is not stopping more than one logon. I looked into it and found that it is only my USR that is not working, but my 2 pm3's blocking of multiple logins are working fine. I thought I had it working, but maybe it never did. Anyone run into this? After this, I'm "over and out" on the subject, and from the tone of everyone on here, I'm going to pretty much tune out the whiny responses, too. MAN, you'd think none of you has ever made a freakin' buck in the past couple years. If that's the case, I'm sorry you're such dumb-asses, really. Because I've done pretty well, and you know, I think I can afford the $750 or so for a software only contract on a chassis that can contain one heck of a lot of revenue generating capacity. Figure it out that way. Or buy the HiperNMC/DSP "deal" for in around $3k & get software support that way. A good deal when you figure it will be in service for maybe 5 years quite probably--- You've got some configuration where it doesn't make sense to spend even that? Well, then don't buy it and shut up. The universe is not rotating around you to serve your unique needs in all cases. I don't think Commworks, profit and loss-wise has done NEARLY as well as even small ISP's--I think they're hemorrhaging money most likely. I doubt any of you are. Or shouldn't be if you do something other than piddle over these types of things all day long. So bitch as you like, but man, this act like Commworks is Evil and wants to bleed you of your last penny is really wearing on me. I'm right with you there that Commworks has not shown the utmost of intelligence on any number of things, including support contracts, but, still, it's the best equipment out there, it works relatively problem free, it's generating a lot of revenue for us, and I understand that I haven't exactly bought new DSP's, ARC's, Chassis, anything in a good long time, and intrinsic in that is the cost of software updates--saved on one end by buying used, cost on the other end, software contract, but add it up, still, real, damn cheap if you figure it out in any kind of reasonable business way. I'm as cheap as the next guy, but I do understand that if Commworks goes the way of Ascend, Livingston, you WILL pay a MUCH higher price in the long run. It's called supporting your vendors instead of beating them out of the business. Try it. Like I said, not interested in any sad stories whatsoever. It's my perspective from reading the recent posts. SMT PS: Uh, not really interested in any "attaboys" from Commworks, either. Just keep the pricing pencils sharp and the thinking caps on. Scott M. Trautman

I have some odds and ends left over from my ISP days that you might be interested in. I have two almost complete chassis with Hiper NMC, Hiper Arc (128k I think), 48 modems, and dual ac 70amp power supplies. These have the fan trays built into the chassis. I will take $2200 each for them. Let me know if you are interested. I will part them out if they don't sell after a couple of days. Scott do you really truly believe there is no profit margin built into the 3com equipment? They have been manufacturing almost the same product for years. The prices are still high. They make money as do their vendors. The problem lies in Management and the lack of customer support that allows them to maintain a good return customer base. ISP's are leaving 3com for a good reason. Wake up. On the other hand do you read the news? Do you know how many CLEC's and ISP's have gone under as of late? Who CARES what Ascend is doing? I sure the hell don't and would NEVER use that equipment (did once only because we purchased another ISP that used that equipment). People are not leaving 3com for Ascend... Why would they? People are leaving 3com for Cisco and Patton... DAILY. Why? Because it's a better deal with a company that really wants your business and supports what they sell... Reasonably. Scott... I am curious. How many ports do you have (we have over 3000)? How long have you been using 3com (we have used it for over 6 years)? Did you recently do an upgrade program to get all your equipment up to date? The reason for these questions is why would anyone in their right mind want someone to charge more? You apparently have other motives to your email. I am not sure exactly what but keep on posting and I am sure the wise on this list will figure it out. Look I could go on and on. As could Jeff McAdam's and many others.
