I have long suspected that the seperation of the support function from 3Com to outside providers was something of a palace coup to preserve the company. There was obviously no way to get rid of the problem managers so they just took away the product they were managing and moved to to someone else. Mark, Yes it was nice when this Forum was for support of 3com (actually USR) products. I remember the days in which people such as Jeff McAdams were posting helpful solutions almost daily. However, the reason you see the decline of this forum is because of 3com's lack of customer care. 3com's overpricing and 3com's lack of valid and cost effective support for their products. You will see more and more negativity on this forum as 3com continues. If you are currently unaffected then it is because you are either very lucky, a favored insider or not been with 3com that long to realize how they have changed from the USR days. The support contracts, whether software only or full support are based on the number of ports. This makes sense for the hardware support but less so for the software only. If you can replace the number of ports in a 3Com chassis with a new unit for a price point relative to the software only support contract then go for it. Stop whining and just do it. I much prefered this list when it was a forum for exchange of solutions and support for 3Com/USR equipment. As it stands now it has become a forum of Patton referals so that guys who have Patton's can assure themselves of free support by keeping the sales chain full. No, V.92 is part of TCS 4.5 which will be posted this week. A software contract would allow you to download the code. There is no charge over the software contract for V.92. In order to get the new V.92 capable code for the TNTs you also need a support contract from Lucent. You also have to purchase a hardware and software support contract as well as purchase the code separately. Don't quote me but you end up purchasing about 3 separate packages to get the V.92 upgrade. To try and help clear up the confusion out there I have included a synopsis on the TNT and 3Com V.92 requirments...... The TNT only supports the V.92 code on the following cards: MultiDSP cards: TNTV-SL-ADI-C, TNTP-ADI-S-C, or APX8-SL-96DSP. These older cards will not support V.92: TNT-SL-DM48, TNT-SL-48MOD-S56, TNT-SL-48MOD-SGL/-S-C,TNT-SL-48MODV3-S-C You'll also need to make sure you have at least 32MB flash card. The 3Com TC1000 supports V.92 on the following cards: Hiper cardset and above with a HiperARC with 128MB RAM If you have a valid support contract the V.92 code upgrade is included with your contract. If you do not have a support contrat I have no clue what the code costs to purchase?? Dead effing air... again and again.

I am at wits end with this problem. We have some new dialup we are opening... we have a DS3, which is going through a Carrier Access to split into 28 PRIs. These PRI's are going to two Total Controls, each with 14 DSPs, 2 ARCs and a Hiper NMC. We have three huntgroups... one is 10 PRIs, all NFAS... the other two are 18 PRIs, the first 14 are NFAS and live in one chassis, the other 4 PRIs are on the same chassis as the first 10, but use FAS. The Total Controls are flashed with the latest TCS 4.3 code... 5.2.102 for the ARCs, 3.1.7 for the DSPs and 8.2.7 for the NMC. All ports are set for the DMS100 switchtype. The second chassis, the one with the 14 PRIs huntgrouped and NFASed, is giving me lots of trouble. Actually, the first one might be giving me trouble as well, but less people are testing and the 4 FAS cards never get used as they get traffic after the 14 PRIs in the second chassis overflow. We have had reported problems with low connect speeds and dead air with the second chassis. If I reboot, everything is fine for about 15 minutes, then people start getting booted off. Right now, if I dial I get dead air everytime, however, some people (on card 9 and card 12) seem to be doing fine. In total frustration, I reflashed the DSP cards to 2.0.51, as it is the code we use elsewhere, but the dead air problem remains. These new lines are in a colo, where we get the DS3 directly from a CLEC, which is new to use. We are also using the DS3 widebank for the first time. We are also using NFAS for the first time.
