I thought the rumour of doing just 1 new song (the 007 movie or something else) was a good idea. That way, they can 'test the water', and if it's a hit, THEN they could proceed and do a new album. On the other hand, if the song was a flop, the damage to their 'legacy' would be minimal (eg. I don't understand why many people think a new Police album would be a bad idea. Yes, they (The Police) have nothing to prove. But, does that mean that Sting, Andy, and Stewart still have something to prove as individuals? They've all proven themselves 10X over. Are we better off if all three of them stop producing solo material? Maybe they should all stop so that all of their work lives on as a legacy. I think that is the wrong idea. A new, successful Police album would be the ultimate challenge to all three. Besides, I haven't heard much else about the police not making a new record except for the article that appeared in "The Sun". I hope this is just a marketing exercise to push ticket sales for the third leg of the tour. I'm keeping my fingers crossed like I've been doing for the past 20+ yrs. -Paolo ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ciao a tutti from Giovanni. I look forward to a New Sting album; I can only imagine what he is capable of after a Police tour. Same for Stewart and Andy. The Police are the past, sorry but The Police 'we want' is something from the past; why do you think they are not thinking about working on a new record? Simple: no great ideas probably, nothing that can push the name higher than where is now; the band did the best ever in the Eighties, did a fabulous reunion tour....what else? And why? Remember: there is always a number of fans that will be disappointed if they will or they won't release a new album or many other reasons. I simply trust their creativity and cleverness; the fact that they do not release an album is a sign that a new album won't be that interesting; if they will change their minds and will decide to do it, that means they found a good creative reason. I agree with Gio...we simply have to trust the boys' own instincts on this. I, for one, suspect strongly that Stewart's show two weeks from now in Savannah (with Daniel Hope) will be terrific, and we may see him going in some new directions. It'll be interesting to find out what the three boys do after this (is it my way of saying OYSTERHEAD TOUR 2009?! You bet it is! ;)) Jean in Nashville (aka Divemistress)

I am actually on the fence about a new album. It could be great. But then, watching the video posted here of "I Hung My Head," it could also be quite embarrassing. Sting has pretty much ruined his own reputation in most musical and critical quarters, but he hasn't done so to the reputation of The Police. Perhaps he realizes this and figures he'll leave well enough alone, at least in terms of new material. Fine with me! Chris

Remember when I said last year that I'd never go to another concert of any description if it meant dealing with TicketBastard? Well... I'm spending the morning trying to negotiate their paltry excuse for a system. Phoned up, was told to press 2 for the Police, was told to press 9 for the accessible seating information line (note, they said, that this line cannot actually sell you tickets), and... just kept hearing the same message telling me to press 9. Website offers a phoneline for same which does not open until 9.30 - half an hour after tickets go on sale. Smooth, TicketMaster. Re: Sting - I do think he gets too much flak about the quality of his solo work. Even Sacred Love had some damn good songs and I respect that he's still experimenting with different instruments and cultural influences. I think he gets bored if he can't shake things up a bit, which probably does mitigate against the Police recording more stuff together. I just wish that next time he records a solo album, it won't be over-produced like Sacred Love.... it's been said that Brand New Day suffers from the same problem, but I notice it less there; maybe because it hangs together better as an album and is just a better collection of songs. Hey! My take on all this from the beginning has been the following...that Sting woke up one day in late 2006, with SACRED LOVE doing lousy and the lute album barely making a dent with us and realized the only way to stay relevant was to FINALLY reunite. And what a brilliant stroke it was....put the $$$$ aside for a moment and think about it...he was the driving force around the highest grossing tour of 2007, one of the most anticipated tours in the last few decades, playing tunes he could play in his sleep. And all the while, he has probably been writing new tunes - tunes that could have wound up on a new Police studio record, but that is another story! - for his next solo record which will probably be heralded by everyone when it comes out in 2009 or 2010. I may have bashed him here for years and years for not reuniting, his solo tour setlists, etc...but one thing I NEVER did was say he was dumb. Incidentally...I paid $260 for a 15th row ticket to their 8/4/08 show at Jones Beach, thinking it was to be the last show they'd ever play. Imagine my horror to discover this show is now their SECOND to last show, that the last show will be the next night.
