Hello, I have a few questions about the KK CD "Kollected Works": - does this CD include the complete released work by KK (incl. 7" B-sides, compilation only releases, etc.)? If not, what tracks are missing? - there is an error on my copy of "Kollected Works": the last track is "Office Talk". After this song is over there is an uncredited appearance of the song "Guerilla" (not mentioned on the cover nor label). Is my CD a misprint? Was this corrected on a later pressing? - is it known when the KK songs were recorded? 1978/79/80? The three "previously unreleased" tracks all sound like they were recorded much later (in the 1990s?). - are there any reported "guest appearances" from Andy or Sting on any of these recordings? to begin, i will not offer my editing skills to this article. i will merely refer you to its final paragraph...and bring up a conversation that i had with a friend over the past weekend - about how i was thinking of breaking down and going to see the SL tour. i was, really! no joke! despite the fact that i have stated here that i would not see him on this tour or any other. but i was beginning to rethink that. then i saw a setlist - something i have bothered to do since the tour started. and i told myself to forget it. the last paragraph of this review is the reason why i cannot bring myself to go see the SL tour - because, to me, sting he is mailing it in. he could perform a concert without doing a single police song and i would LOVE it - provided he didn't play it safe, played rare solo material and "brought it" musically. and although there are those of you that think he is "bringing it", that he is not "mailing it in", i firmly disagree. sting is too excellent a musician - a musician that can excel to heights that few can. unfortunately, these days, he is now content to barely leave the ground. rich --- Onecoatsam <onecoatsam(a)msn.com> wrote: > > Perhaps a more appropriate review can be summarized > as: "The love may be > sacred, but the music is broken." > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "StingUs" <frotri(a)panafonet.gr> > To: "Stingus@Yahoogroups. He's not performing a play for goodness sakes! I think of when I went to see the same Shakespeare play with the same cast. It was once in London, and then in Brooklyn. :) It was the same words, the same direction and the same stage setting. However, I went away with two different points of view on the play and what became of the characters from one venue to the other. The reason, I guessed, was because the cast must have done something different. Sting should do something different with his script from place to place. In the past, as you say (and I recall) he did sometimes go with the same setlist. However, the energy and vitality of the show (or something) gave no one reason to complain. Now, as we read from these various reviewers who haven't seen but the one show--he's holding back. I don't think it's him; it's the material. Just my opinion, but I think Sting is such a perfectionist that he wants the lighting, the singing, the music to be perfect for every show. Maybe he's got OCD. As much as I'd like to see a different show, I just don't think he's got it in him. Even back in the Police days, I don't remember a whole lot of differences from show to show, including the outfits. Can't teach an old dog new tricks you know! It's not his fault he has us fanatics that go to more than one show and we have to hear the same jokes over again and know every move he's going to make! Can you imagine if he went the Celine Dion way and played Vegas night after night? How many people would go to more than a couple shows? I'm sure those shows don't change up either. Sting concerts

I have to also agree that is highly dissapointing to have the same show repeated over and over. I used to want to go to as many shows as I could during a tour and given that I live near NYC I could as he generally plays Philly, NY and NJ on a tour. But the shows are the same since the BND tour including the jokes which just seems to give it a lack of sponteinty. I still enjoy seeing him but it just could be so much better. I thought about this again when I read an artcle about The Cure and how Robert Smith writes out the set list like 10 minutes before the show and then band then gets it. So even "older" acts can do this. Of course the Springsteens and Pearl Jams do this constantly. Anyone know about U2 - does their set list change during the tour? I know his comments do change. Just curious.

The SL show I saw early on was fabulous, and I felt like I never wanted it to end. My senses were even deafened for a time afterward. However, the awful truth is that we are forever reminded of those Sting performances which exceeded beyond fabulous. My such concert was at the patriot center during the NLTS tour. It quite literally was THE best concert that I have EVER attended. I would say that only one show from the BND tour even came close-- though I enjoyed all of the shows I attended from the various tours. It's the curse of that perfect show...he can never possibly achieve it again. There will always be a reason for someone to use to make the performance not nearly as good for them. Yet, each show will be enjoyed by all...if you only see it once. It boggles my mind as to why Sting keeps using the same set list! It makes no sense. I feel fortunate that during a BND show I saw, he sang a different song "My One and Only Love". I had tears, and I never really listened to that song on that soundtrack, because I preferred "Angel Eyes". Heh, I probably would have fainted if he had sung that one. :) Anyway, I don't want to feel like I have seen all Sting can give in concert. Heaven forbid that seeing a show by him should become nothing but an act of nostalgia--a means of just having the chance to just see him perform again?! It makes me wonder if that isn't what it's always been to me--since that perfect show. No, seeing Sting has always been an enjoyable experience. Perhaps, it just can no longer be so during the same tour. This sounds like the set that was released in the UK a few weeks (months?) ago. It's the live album, and the EBYT DVD in one package. Universal has been re-packaging greatest hits CDs with DVDs under the "Sound and Vision" banner. Since we are talking record labels (ok, just me :) )..... Can I officially cast a vote for something in the Police catalog to be rereleased under Universal's "Deluxe" program? They have been putting out some great 2cd sets of classic (Goodbye Yellow Brick Road) and ...uh, neo-classic albums (Weezer). Heck, this would be the perfect chance to do "Dream of the Blue Turtles" with a bonus disc of the "Bring on the Night" film performances. Just in time for the 20th anniversary next year, no?
