This is indeed a remix, for all the reasons Attis mentioned. Most of us generally don't like remixes. What would you have thought if you heard the Desert Rose remix before hearing the album version? Remixes strip out the musicianship in the song in favor of rhythm for the sake of commercial appeal. I'm sure the album version will be much different. I wish a remix were unnecessary, but unfortunately it is in order for the song to work commercially. So I'll allow Sting one commercial hook in exchange for a great album. That said though, I don't dislike the song. It's grown on me. I don't think you can stand still while listening. And I actually like the lyrics. This seems to be his post-9/11 song, which I was dreading. But it's understated -- you can read into the lyrics whatever you want. It's a "positive" song a la Brand New Day: "...there's no religion but sex and music, there's no religion but sound and dancing, there's no religion but line and color, there's no religion but the joys of rhythm, there's no religion in the path of hatred, there's no religion that's right or winning, there ain't no prayer but the one I'm singing... Well, I haven't managed to download it yet so all I know is what I've heard from you guys, but I doubt that in terms of genres, this is representative of the album as a whole. Dominic's interview in the Sunday Life, combined with the stuff that has been revealed on this mailing list and the StingUs.net one, make it sound like there's a variety of musical styles, as per usual. So I'm not going to worry until I get to hear the whole album.... We haven't had this many posts in months and months.... This HAS to be a remix. It doesn't sound like anything Sting has ever done, even Desert Rose or After the Rain. That said, it will probably be a big hit on the dance charts. Do I like it? Um, sure, for a song from someone like Justin Timberlake. Do I like it as a Sting song? Nope. This kind of tripe (remix or not) is beneath him. Are his lyrics actually getting simpler as he gets older?!? Is this the 21st century "lite" version of Lennon's amazing Imagine? I'd give 100 "Send My Loves" for half a verse of One World or Be Still My Beating Heart. Hell, half a verse of Peanuts. (Not, however, for half a verse of I Hung My Head) ;) I'm hoping that the version we heard WAS the remix and the album version has more substance and less technology. Maggie
