I have to disagree again. But I know that it's just a matter of personal taste. I think her version is actually as boring as some of Sting's jazzed up versions of his old songs. It's not as bad as the new "Walking On The Moon" version of the Master Of Disaster himself... I know, I know. It's just not my music. Why complain...? Oprah/Sting fan thoughts

Jer and all, As one of four people on the people on the VH1 show, I agree that the show didn't cast Sting fans in the best light. The "love consultant" woman Jer is talking about was chosen only because she lived in LA and they were really tight on the budget and they didn't have any more money to travel. And of course we all know that sex sells (ask Sting!). And of course thinking that it's in the "stars" that you were in the Civil War and Sting was field medic (or whatever the story was) who saved your life is crazy. But I also think in a way we are all fruitloops (hey, I even love the cereal). I mean, of the people on this list I know personally, I think there are things we all do or have done that would make us look nutty to others. We in no way have a passive liking of Sting, and the things we do, the sacrifices (mainly financial) we make to see shows IS exceptional, interesting, and would be respected by others. I'm sure the Oprah show and Kathy would have enough power to screen who got on the show. There are some amazing stories out there, and I think to say that they didn't choose to show fans because they are too crazy is a cop out. I think those crazies are the exception, and that an intellectually driven, musically brilliant artist would have a following of approximately the same people (and I have found this to be true). Granted, we haven't seen the show yet, so maybe they did interview some stories. Or perhaps they delved into Stings life and we'll learn some new things about him. In any case, we'll have to wait and see. Regarding Don's message about setlists, a few weeks back in the fans' area of the official site, Sting was actually asking for people to post three songs they'd like to hear played on the tour, and some of the non-single-yet-fan-favourite ones which were most commonly requested were: I Burn For You Consider Me Gone We Work The Black Seam The Lazarus Heart Something The Boy Said End Of The Game I believe Low Life got mentioned too; after the sublime version on "Bring On The Night - Live!" Hi, Yes. I am not sure what they ended up using on Oprah. I did see on Sting.com that at least one person in the fan club did get a call from the Oprah folks. I am not sure why, but Sting meeting fans on TV shows never seems to pan out. I was one of a few fans called called a few years back by MTV for the Fanatic show (the one where MTV would send a fan to meet his/her favorite artist) since they were interested in my story. Later I found out that Sting did not do the show at all, no reason was given. Oh well, maybe some meet and greet opportunities will be available to fan club members on the upcoming tour. Hilary

Hello all, Well, I guess that they taped the Oprah show (not sure when, but Sting.com confirmed it). I would guess that it was while he was out in Chicago for the concert. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone on the list ever got a call back from the show after they had written it. I was disappointed that I never heard anything back from them after I submitted my story. I guess that they also filmed some stuff outside the NYC fan club show. I thought that I had a really good story, but I guess it was not good enough for the Oprah folks. Still waiting to meet Sting... Hilary For those who asked, here is a copy of the essay that I wrote for the Oprah show: I have been a Sting fan since 1987 when Nothing Like the Sun was released. Since then, I have purchased every album, attended 12 concerts, been a member of his fan club, collected everything Sting related (including stamps, Coke Can, guitar pick, signed lithograph, and a water bottle that he used during a concert), visited Newcastle (his hometown) and his fan club offices in London. I first saw Sting perform on Broadway in 1989 in 3 Penny Opera. After the show, I waited to get his autograph. I was very persistent and went to the side of his car and he signed Sti on my Playbill before the car moved away. I would love the opportunity to get the ng part of the autograph! Several months later, I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. When I went into Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh for brain surgery, I listened to Sting videos and cassettes and thought often about seeing Sting on Broadway. On the wall of my hospital room, along with get-well wishes was a photo of Sting. Over the next two years, I faced two brain surgeries and radiation therapy. Throughout this difficult time, Stings music was a constant companion. Often, my incentive to get through tests and treatments was to attend an upcoming Sting concert. After being approved for a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, I struggled with deciding on a wish. I needed a computer to help with my class work and upcoming college applications, however, I really wanted to meet Sting and tell him how much his music has meant to me. After much thought, my rational side won and I wished for a computer. The computer was very useful, but I always wondered, what if I had wished to meet Sting? In the past few months, I have faced more hospitalization and surgery and once again my Sting DVDs and CDs, as well as the anticipation of a new album and tour, were an important part of my recovery. If given the opportunity, I would like to meet Sting and tell him how important his music has been to me.

Fan Club Set list submissions?

I know that the "great one" has played a few shows, and the tour won't start 'til sometime in January 2004 here in the States, but I was wondering what songs Sting is going to include on his upcoming tour? Suggestions? Of course, I'd love to hear: I Burn for You Be Still my Beating Heart Something the Boy Said <------ Did he ever play that on the TST tour? and Bring on the Night in ITS ENTIRETY. Sting and Joe's Tibetan Adventure (Men's Journal)

Sting has written an interesting article in the latest Men's Journal about adventuring through Tibet as a means of bonding with his son Joe (what a cool dad!). The issue hasn't been archived online yet, but is currently available on the newsstands(Sting's on the cover).
