Thoughts on the Westwood One broadcast

For those that weren't able to hear the Westwood One broadcast... There was an interview with Sting about the album, approach to the live show, and the ideas behind "Broken Music" (focusing on the stories that haven't been covered in the press). Nothing discussed that we don't already know. PLENTY of plugs. Be sure to pick up "Sacred Love", "Broken Music", and American Express Blue Cash. Live at the "Blue Five", indeed. *rolls eyes* The (heavily edited and out of order) setlist: Send Your Love - Slowly evolving. Nice, drawn-out take on the intro verse - mainly Sting on acoustic guitar. Band kicks in pretty quickly. Message In A Bottle - Rock version!!! What's it been, 12 years? Set Them Free - As per usual, except for the accented hits in the chorus from the "All This Time" arrangement. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic Inside Whenever I Say Your Name - I don't particularly care for this song, but Joy Rose now clearly owns it. Mary J. Who? :-) Synchronicity II - Straightforward. Sting has dropped the newer chromatic scale arrangement for the last verse that he played during the MF tour. Roxanne If I Ever Lose My Faith In You - a little bit of the extended end jam, reminded me of the TST live version. Every Breath You Take - slowed down from the BND live turbo version. Sounded quite nice. Fragile - original version I'm not surprised as to what songs were chosen for this broadcast - a mix of new songs and greatest hits. I was hoping to hear the tracks that weren't played on the BBC broadcast - "All This Time", "This War", "Desert Rose". I love when the band cuts loose, so "Never Coming Home" would have been welcome. Even though that's now a jam section we've heard countless times, it still delivers on the energy level. Even though the song means much to me, I'm glad they didn't waste time with another recording of "Fields Of Gold". It'll be interesting to see where the songs on this tour end up. From what little I've heard, it seems that the classic songs are there, but they've been more or less returned to their original arrangements. Sadly, my tape didn't turn out :-( -b-

Sony and Philips introduced their latest catalog of SACD discs in the U.S. market. The new SACD Catalog is entitled "09.03" (September 2003) and is debuting at the AES Convention. The catalog features Sting on the cover to promote his new Surround Sound SACD release of the new album Sacred Love. It also includes several full page ads for other recent key SACD releases including Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon on EMI/Capitol Records, the 7 Stereo SACDs on Analogue Productions by Creedence Clearwater Revival, Gaucho by Steely Dan on MCA and the Sympathy for the Devil Remix by the Rolling Stones on ABKCO. VH1 and fans

Actually, I need to point out that not ALL of the people on the VH-1 show were Froot loops. Furthermore, the fans that were interviewed didn't exactly have control over how they cut and put together what was said during the interview process. Not only that, at least with one person -Angie-, they asked her to embellish some things. There was a part where they showed her putting up pix of Sting at her desk at work and made it look like she did that every day. They were asked by Angie not to use that part but of course, they did. I think one person in particular was portrayed as a Froot Loop and it reflected poorly on the rest of them. Having been involved with media people in the past, I know how VH1-kinda-guys can twist and turn reality ... Cheers, Karel

CD-Copy Protection Killed by Shift Key By Mike Darrah Published October 07, 2003 @ 08:37 AM A flaw has been unravelled in the CD-Copy protection technology developed by SunnComm Technologies Inc. which is so simplistic, it requires the stroke of a single key to exploit. The flaw, discovered by John Halderman (a Princeton graduate student), in SunComm's MediaMax CD3 software invokes a work around solution to disable the "autorun" encrytion software on a protected disk. Quite simply, by holding down the shift key when accessing a CD in Windows, the encryption software designed by SunComm to encrypt the contents of that compact disk simply fails to ever execute. In stopping this auto execution, the software which is designed to install a proprietary driver to access the contents of the CD is cancelled. The technology, used in Anthony Hamilton's "Comin' From Where I'm From" was released from BMG into the US market earlier this year. The CD fails to work at all on a Mac or Linux based computer due to the disc copy protected design. BMG claimed to be aware of the exploit, stating that the technology was designed to be a "speed bump" for users who wish to copy the CD rather then a full fledged lock down of that CD due to their desires to not cripple the CD's playability and flexibility.

Hi folks, there's a nearly new Police and Sting cover CD in Germany. It's called "Liquid Blue - songs of sting and the police". It's very jazzy (sung by the female singer Klaudia Salkovic) and very nice. In contrast to "Sacred love" it is worth buying with every little pence.
