Again, well said! Just because copyright holders wish us to perform things a certain way just because its in THEIR interest and because its the status quo doesn't mean we should follow like sheep. Stand up for your rights as a consumer! I just dont buy that the status quo is worthwhile preserving simply because it is the status quo. This way is just a better way of doing business! This way you, the consumer, get to know what you're buying prior to purchasing, you get exposed to things you never would otherwise which probably INCREASES the possibility of you buying them (as well as being more informed about what you otherwise WOULD buy). It may make people squirm because a few idiots will download things they would otherwise buy and never end up making the purchases, but in my personal experience, the advent of p2p software has actually made me a better customer. I am more well informed and I am able to make judgements based on an informed decision. I have an enormous list of things which I plan to purchase which I found out about via p2p software and otherwise would be ignorant of. Granted in the meantime I am already able to listen to them, but that doesnt lessen my desire to be a legit customer once _I_ judge that my fiscal situation has attenuated enough to be able to afford them. Releasing an album only in Japan without even giving dates for UK or U.S. release is just asking for piracy in my opinion. The choice between waiting a few days and paying over thirty dollars and just downloading it seems like a no-brainer to me. Now if I could purchase it at my local music retailer for $16.99, that would be another matter (is the album EVER going to be released in the U.S. or what?). Apparently us European and American orb fans just aren't a priority. After listening to it twice: This album shouldn't be released as The Orb. The only song that sounds orb-ish is "The Land of Green Ginger"... And maybe a little "Tower 23"... The rest sounds like Thomas Fehlmann/Aphex Twin/John Roome/Sun Electric/Badorb stuff... :-( "From a Distance" is not that bad, however it doesn't fit into whole album... And 3 tracks are totally useless: "Orb Is", "Now Here" and "Abstractions". BTW. i'm sorry but i really think Alex needs the supporting cast. this album is stripped down and very simplistic sounding compared to orbus terrarum, orblivion, and even cydonia. A few of the tracks are ok--from a distance is so out of place it's not funny. Remember when listening to orb albums were like taking a journey? The tracks do not flow--and the track everyone thinks of as the best, tower 23, pales in comparison to other dubby tracks such as slug dub or towers of dub. Ha ha ha! everyone should go and see 'Thrash"'s review of the album on www.hmv.co.jp (don't skip the www. part or it will squawck about the certificate origin when you order). 1800 yen for shipping to Canada!! that's just over $20 CDN!! almost half the price!! (came to just over $50, but hey I'm a freak and will consider it worth it - or else!). Apparently it will be here next Wednesday - way cool. Anyway, thanks everyone (esp smiley - what would we do without you!) for the reviews of the album (and of ordering - I didn't bother trying amazon.co.jp cuz you guys said so). I don't remember who it was but someone on this list suggested that strangelove records in japan http://sound.jp/strangelove/was a good source for the new un so I ordered mine there. It was only 3330 yen or $38.32 cdn, including post, at the time(around a month ago). I have not got it yet(5-10 days) but Junko was awesome to deal with and the site is very much in english which is great because my japanese is terrible. I am going mad waiting for it to arive but I want to express my gratitude for all the opinions on the latest(and hopefully greatest) orb release. Smiley: big up , Rachel: big beat and everyone else: big respect. The orb list is the bestest!!!! I got the album yesterday (shipped Wednesday, arrived yesterday in Boston, USA) and I'm liking it quite a lot so far. I still love that first track, I can't wait to hear more of LX & Jimmy together. That's the part that most sticks with me, but I'm digging Tower 23 a lot too. I guess I can't write a proper review right now, but needless to say I'm enjoying the hell out of it (with that Gee String song being my definite least favorite). I ordered mine from www.cdjapan.co.jp . I highly recommend them, I've used them for a while (I also have a secret life as a jpop fan) and they're very prompt and reasonably priced for albums and movies. I bought B&T with a new Shiina Ringo concert dvd (which I think was about 3500 yen) and it came out to $65 shipped (got here in 2 days, I won't complain. I think the shipping portion was about 1200 yen or so). Also, the site's fully in English and the customer service people speak english too, so it's rather convenient without relying on shifty translations or partially translated sites. Anyhow, I'm off, but I'm liking the album a lot.
