I don't remember who it was but someone on this list suggested that strangelove records in japan http://sound.jp/strangelove/was a good source for the new un so I ordered mine there. It was only 3330 yen or $38.32 cdn, including post, at the time(around a month ago). I have not got it yet(5-10 days) but Junko was awesome to deal with and the site is very much in english which is great because my japanese is terrible. I am going mad waiting for it to arive but I want to express my gratitude for all the opinions on the latest(and hopefully greatest) orb release. Smiley: big up , Rachel: big beat and everyone else: big respect. The orb list is the bestest!!!! Hi, 01. From a Distance; All I cant tell you this is a killer track! I woke this morning with this track on me lips. Love the ugly flanged vocals!!! 02. Dilmun; a ambit track dark fluty thingy 03. The Land Of Green Ginger; I can hear some Richard H. Kirk sounds! Love it and some oblivious 808 beat init groovy. 04. Hells Kitchen; Dark cathedral track distant drumbeat nice strings. 05. Gee Strings this must be a FEHLMANN track? Rach! I agree Cheesus! 06. Prime Evil; Dark dub nice bass lines. 07. Orb Is; Jazzy track one of my favorites love the bass lines in this one 08. Now Here; Sounds like a track taken from a future funeral on planet Mars. 09. Abstractions; Somewhat messy track a little too much noise for my ears. Only my 20th listen thou! :-) 10. L.U.C.A ; Orb samples Richard H. Kirk in the new track as a devoted RHK and CABs fan this is easy to spot I love it back beat dark. 11. Compania; Clearly same samples as KIRK uses here too I like it a lot Feels almost like Richard H. Kirk is collaborating on this whole album in some strange way, maybe thats why I dig it!!! 12. Tower Twenty Three; This is the best track on the CD (at the moment) Dub, harmonica backbeat all the ingredients to make a good orb cake. In case anyone cares, here's my thoughts on the album, not that I've given it a more thorough listening. I will echo Smiley's statements that this album grows on you, and it should certainly be listened to at high volume! =) - From a Distance I still *love* this track... i find it running around my head after i've left the house. its so upbeat - it gets me completely fired up. and truthfully, i don't mind the vocal sample. any ideas who "the corpral" is? (credit with lyrics and vocals) - The Land of Green Ginger Rmx I like this better than what was on the Back To Mine album... I'm not sure if that's because its now surrounded by other Orb, or if its a different mix somehow. Its got the nice layered (and trippy) samples I enjoy from the Orb. - Hell's Kitchen This one's darker, with more of a churning rhythm. I like the horns and strings - it gives it an unusually melodic sound, especially given the darker beats that come and go... - Gee Strings I still really hate this one, but I'm able to ignore it better now, so its not completely offensive. Its just such a damn cheesy house track with that soulful groaning on top of what might otherwise be an orbish beat... - Prime Evil As the name suggests, this song is pretty dark... I'm *lovin* the bassy elements that come in and out - so good!! - Orb Is Dark and dubby - you'll all dig it i expect. - Now Here I think this is a really nice ambient track... it sort of ebbs and flows with the rhythms, and the bell sounds coming and going adds another dimension to it. - Abstractions Another dark one, this one a little more industrial sounding with its elements... it starts off beaty, goes into an ambient interlude, and builds back into the beats again. More good stuff - what else can i say? - L.U.C.A. This one's got waves of sound, with nice, bassy beats. (and we all know by now that i am such a bass-slut) the more i listen to this one, the more i like it! i bet it would sound amazing live (hint hint! when are we getting some live orb dates?!) - Compania This is a nice, ambient, down tempo number with swooshing strings and bells that somehow manages to build up suspence for the next track. (its just a super short one) - Tower Twenty Three Ok, this one's right up there with From A Distance - its starts off with harmonicas and delayed samples! hello - what orb fan doesn't love harmonicas?! its classic orb dub, if you ask me, and i imagine this track will be the most popular one amoungst the list members. - Dilmun I think of this as more of a peaceful outro... something i'd listen to as i'm falling asleep at night. I too have happily tossed a good deal of money into cyberspace in an effort to bolster Japan's lackluster economy! Has anyone from the U.S. ordered the new Orb through HMV.jp? Was there any problem with it. My girlfriends all, "You paid HOW much for a CD coming out in a month here?" And I was all, "But the extra track! And I WANT IT NOW!!!" Needless to say she doesn't understand. It was $17 to ship to Texas. Almost as much as the album itself... I'm going to try to find another CD since the shipping should be about the same. Hey Orbsters! Ok, I've given it a listen to, and like Smiley, I'm reserving judgement til I've given it several listens, but here's my first impressions: - I love "From A distance", despite how unpopular that's going to make me on this list... its up-beat, happy, layered sound that gets me movin. Who cares about the dumb lyrics - you can hardly understand it anyway! I think its fun, and definitely has that KLF influence. - Gee Strings is one of the worst songs I've ever heard by anyone, Orb or not. Where did this horrible, bland house come from, and why doesn't it die? It was bad enough on the Kompassion EP, and this "remix" is no better. blegh. - Prime Evil has some really nice bass elements in it - yummy! Go Simon! - Orb Is sounds the most like "classic orb" to me - its got a good dubby beat, with trippy samples on top, and a nice flow. I've been too distracted by work to properly digest the rest of the tracks individually... Anyone else have some thoughts?
