Hello Montgomery sailors, Thought I would inform all of you on this list first. Hesitatingly, I am going to list my 1982 M23 Clarity for sale. Shasta and I have recently moved aboard our "new to us" Ericson 36c and cannot justify keeping 2 boats as we complete grad school. We have so enjoyed sailing Clarity over the years - including the San Juan and Gulf Island trip last year as one of the six 23's to participate in the cruise. In the 10 years or so I have owned Clarity, she has received: - centerboard removed, sandblasted, barrier coated, and re-pinned - new standing rigging - new HD motor mount - a new (2003 model) Honda 8hp 4 stroke - newly insulated hull and wood lining in cabin - 2 new 12v deep cycle batteries - new 160 Genoa The cabin was not factory finished as the boat was used for racing. I have been slowly doing the woodwork and most of the hard stuff is done. Still time to finish it the way you like. Sean, You are to be commended for giving hull #44 a new life. Kudos for taking on such an involved project. Some other "boater" could have well chopped the keel off, plugged it, and mounted a 150hp outboard on the transom! (Jerry has a story about such an occurrence). You're as sick as I am, an M23 and an M17. #44 making big progress...complete new keel installed.

#44 is making progress in her recovery to a seaworthy vessel. Big progress this week. I had taken her over to Bob at Montgomery Boats. Initially we were going to repair the existing keel. Well, it was in such bad shape...out came the sawzall and off it came. Yes you understand correctly...the entire keel was cut off. A brand new keel and centerboard trunk were laid up and bonded to the hull. 100% lead ballast installed, old style windows replaces with a newer look....and new hatch boards created. I brought her home the other day and am thrilled with the results. There are some pictures on the Monty forum of Trailersailor.com Had I tried to repair this myself, it would just not have been doable. Once we opened up the keel and removed the damn steel ballast....it turned out the centerboard trunk was broken badly..and the fiberglass itself was so brittle you could just break it with your fingers. The two choices were to completely replace everything...or trash the boat. Fortunately, the mold was right there to pop a new keel out of.....and Bob and the guys used the old cast iron centerboard to pull a mold off of for a new centerboard trunk that will allow me to retain the old style centerboard rather than have to switch to the new style, which was my preference. This repair was WAY above my pay grade!!! So glad it's done. Lots more to do...but she is on the move. Sean

I am planning to drive down from Chicago to Ocean Springs, MS next week for sailing with my M15 and some family.. If anyone can meet me there with a M15 or other Montgomery that would be great, and a surprise for sure. Or if anyone has knowledge or suggestions about the area I would appreciate that also. It will be me (Jim), my wife, Kaye, my son, Mark, a professor at University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg and our Golden Retriever. We will spend sometime on my M15, and explore the shopping, and sites, maybe take a charter cruise. I am scrambling but so far I think we can do it. M17 total weight with trailer?

Does anyone have a total weight, including trailer, sails, etc. for towing consideration for the M17? Anyone tow with a class one hitch? Class II? -Alec
