Wrinkle Boat Mates One on my projects getting ready for the new sailing season here in NWI is boat trim. I have been thinking of adding weight in the form of a cinder block (40 lbs) in the forward compartment under the V berth, secured to the wall of the compartment using a battery tie down system. I have 2 questions 1. Is the 40 lbs enough to counter the engine (36lbs) and skipper (200+) on a solo sail? 2. Should I position the long length of the block along the beam or the centerline (more weight forward) of the boat? Any and all comments are appreciated. Right at the companionway is a nice spot to be, but you can’t stay there without a tiller extension. My Honda outboard weighs around 25, and with me at the companionway the boat is flat fore to aft, and on her lines. Sails great that way. My family and and I are presently stranded in Kiev Ukraine, we came here for a vacation, we were having a good time until last night when we got robbed on our way back to the hotel we are staying, it was a brutal and scary scenario, all cash on us were taken including credit cards and phones, I have been able to cancel our cards so its useless to them now, the good thing is that we are alive and with our passport. I have been to the police and embassy here but the are being reluctant to my report, I was asked to come back in two weeks. Our return flight would leave soon but I am having problems settling our outstanding hotel bills and getting a cab to the airport, Please I need you to help me with a loan to settle the hotel and get a cab to the airport, I will pay back upon my return unfailingly, please let me know if you can give me the loan then I will tell you how to get it to me. North Carolina Cruise Pasquotank River & Dismal Swamp

Cruised the upper Pasquotank River from Elizabeth City NC to just short of the Virginia border. Elizabeth City has a nice ramp with secure parking & free overnight docks near the city center. The trip to the Dismal Swamp canal involves three draw bridges and a lock. The opening at South Mills was delayed 10 minutes. The reverse on the 2 HP Honda is not well suited for holding a stationary position in a narrow canal with a foul current. The stern was constantly being pushed off towards overhanging trees. I eventually put the bow up-current & the boat held perfectly. The Dismal Swamp canal offers several landings where one or more boats can tie-up for the night.

I just received this notice through my BoatUS membership. important information - A well-known fire extinguisher manufacturer, Kidde, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has announced a voluntary recall to replace certain Kidde fire extinguisher units. A faulty valve component can cause the disposable fire extinguishers not to fully discharge when the lever is repeatedly pressed and released during a fire emergency, posing a risk of injury. About 4.6 million extinguishers are affected that were sold nationwide between August 2013 and November 2014. The extinguishers are red, white, or silver with black plastic valves and ABC or BC rated and manufactured in Mexico between July 23, 2013 and October 15, 2014 and sold at department, home, and hardware stores as well as some marine supply stores. Some of the affected extinguisher models were designed for the boating market and have a nameplate on the front with the names Mariner 10, Mariner 110, Mariner 5, and Mariner 5 G.
