Hi Robbin, I have been routing my fuel line through the port scupper in the wet locker, where the fuel tank resides. When I was running an electric start outboard, I ran the DC cables out the same hole. M_Boats on South Puget Sound

I own a Montgomery 15' that I have enjoyed sailing on the waters of Lake Couer D' Alene in North Idaho and the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon. Now I have moved to Olympia, Washington and the tidal saltwater of South Puget Sound. Are there special considerations or other Montgomery owners in this area? Just for the sake of - the other opinion- I have installed hundreds of slugs in mainsails (you can do it yourself on boats this size) when I was selling boats. Not hard job - great for the boatyard/parts store or sailmaker and more appropriate for large sails IMO. If you have a well designed feeder at the throat of the mast the boltrope should feed into it with no problems, (mine has not caused a problem in approximately the 7 years it has been on the rig) the feeder came on new mast from Ballenger Spars. Pros for slugs: Easier to flake sail onto boom. Sometimes - less friction when hoisting and lowering - IF all goes well. There may be other benefits - I don't see them at the moment. I am stubborn. Cons for slugs: sail is supported at slugs only - this can cause a problem when: slug fails and adjacent ones are overloaded. reefing and the slugs become overloaded or break - see above. Slugs bind or are inserted 'upside down' Metal shackles and metal bails on slugs - (less prone to breaking) - can damage mast and anodizing. More weight aloft. Less efficient aero attachment at the mast. Attached is photo showing mainsail feeder - enlarge to 100% for clear view of feeder- ( current sail has a floating tack and the tack and cunningham cringles are tied in and against the mast as they float up and down) - I roll my sails, so flaking is not a concern for the boat. The sail is attached along the whole luff and thus the load is spread move evenly with a boltrope. BTW -your headboard should have slug (or two- in the case of larger headboard) attached with webbing when installing the slugs - this prevents -you guessed-it , the upper slug/shackle/grommet from being overloaded at the leech as experienced during reefing conditions. Biggest Cluster That is a different opinion and worth every penny of the price paid -mileage may vary, always wear safety glasses, this is an exhibition - NOT a competition -Please - No Wagering! Length of centerboard pennant on 2005 M-17

I sail "Reef-or-Madness," a 2005 M-17 (hull # 628) out of Sturgeon Bay, WI. A knot was tied on the centerboard pennant by a previous owner that prevents the centerboard from dropping more than 1' 4" from its fully-up position in its trunk. Should the board be able to drop further? I would experiment except for the fact that the knot appears to be almost impossible to untie. Also, my cockpit seems to drain exceptionally slowly. For example, a day or two after a rain, there remains residual water in the cockpit. I have checked the cockpit drains and they are not clogged. Admittedly, I do have enough gear in the cabin to sustain me on an ocean crossing, but even when I place the full weight of my 170 pound torso on the top of the stern wet locker lid, the cockpit still drains slowly. Is this typical of 2005 M-17s? Paul Kasriel

Just had an early dinner with the Colorado Contingent who were passing thru Sacatomatoes, and got partial results for the Monterey Race, AKA the Cruiser Challenge XIII. Sean was first in the A fleet with his M-23. Paintboy Stan, in my borrowed XXXX (I won't use the dreaded S word for fear of getting yelled at) was first in the B fleet and first overall, with Dave Scobie 1 1/2 boats lengths behind (had to have been an exciting race). Apparently there were no M-17's in the race which is surprising to me- this is a great race in a neat place, well worth the drive. A Potter won the C fleet, with Bernard Price in an M-15 second. Bolt rope Vs slugs

Has anyone changed from bolt rope to slugs on there sails . The reason I'm asking is when I lower my sails when reefing ,or going to motor , I have to reinstall the bolt rope .So I was thinking of mabe going to slugs and a mastgate . So what are the thoughts or been there done that , and no good . Thanks in advance for any advice Klaas
