The comment about stalling the rudder of a M-15 in the SCA article was made by John Harris of CLC. The SCA article left out a good bit of the context for my remarks, especially my emphatic caveat that my larger mainsail would have added weather helm even with the mast raked forward. Nevertheless, I don't think it does the design the slightest disservice to suggest that a wider and slightly shallower rudder would be an improvement for casual sailing. End of boom mainsheet

After having our M17 for six months, we're interested in learning more about the pluses and minuses of moving the mainsheet to the end of the boom. The obvious plus is gaining more room in the cockpit, which appeals to us since we are both fairly tall and less nimble than ever. What we don't have is a good feel for is what we would give up in terms of sail control. Any input on this would be really helpful, especially in the form of photos that show the details of how exactly the end of boom sheeting is rigged (i.e., what hardware works well, where and how the best attachment point aft is located, etc.). We are definitely cruisers and not racers, but do enjoy having the boat perform well under sail. We love Latitude's performance with the stock mainsheet rig supplied by Bob Eeg, and are trying to figure out the tradeoffs in making such a change. We welcome all reports of experiences, problems, payoffs etc, and would especially like to see some pics of how you may have executed this major change to your 17. Jim & Cynthia M17 Latitude

M15 bottom cleaning

I'm starting to bring old no. 484 (1984) back to life. Before considering a professional bottom cleaning for barnacle residue, thought I would try "Star Brite". Has anyone had experience with any bottom products and possiblibly have a recommendation? The residual was from a San Francisco bay docking or mooring. Bruce King Fair Oaks,CA M15 484

Neil, Sounds about like what I have on my 1980 M-15, of course without ratchet block and 30 years of wear. Another difference is that I can adjust the angle (to a point) from block to cam cleat. I would imagine it is original equipment, and it works well. I use my foot to lock it and an upward flip to let it out when I get scared, which is often. Thinking about an M17

All, I have my eye on the 17. Not sure if I will buy new or used. One question I have is the boat height on the trailer with mast down. I have a 10' x 24' storage shed with 10' height. Will it fit? Mike Sent from my iPhone
