The cockpit mounted manual builge pump on my 23 disintegrated. Need parts. Right now the name of the mfg. escapes me, but they were based in UK and are no longer in business. Thoughts? I'd like to NOT go another direction and have to deal with a 9-inch hole in my cockpit. Thanks. Spinnaker for M-15

Hi guys...When I bought my 15 a few months ago it came with a spinnaker but I haven't a clue how to deploy it. What is the procedure?...Also how do I reef the main...I have one set of reef-points...I'm slowly learning the fine points of sailing this beauty....it really is a fine little sailer...Thanks Greg Adams M-15 #151 Dancing Bear

Hey Greg I think what I just sent you is fairly accurate but I should have started with preparation. I'm assuming your chute is in a bag. First pull it out because if its not stuffed correctly it can ruin your day. With the bag between your legs start with the center of the foot stuffing it into the bagbut DO NOt stuff the clews. You maw have a red and green clew, if so keep them on the proper sides. continue stuffing without twisting it. When everything is in the bag except the 3 corners you are ready to tie the bag to the pulpit keeping the red and green corners on the proper side. The bag should be forward of the forestay and make sure the halyard isn't twisted around anything. now you can attach the halyard and sheets if you can tie the bag shut so the chute doesn't come out before you are ready. You may also have a red and green sheet which helps keep everything organized. Now you are sailing downwind with the jib rolled up or pulled down, attach the pole to the mast and the windward sheet making sure both s sheets are above the jib sheets. Now you are ready to proceed with my first e-mail unless we get lots of flack from the peanut gallary. It's been many years since I've flown a chute but the best I can remember, if its a synetrical chute you need a topping lift to hold the s pole the right highth and a down haul to keep it there for starters. Now you need a halyard and 2 sheets, actually I think the sheet attached to the s pole side is the sheet and the 1 under the main is the guy and when you gibe they change names. Have the topping lift and down haul attached to the pole before you raise the chute, and I think the pole attached to the chute on the windward side. Now you are getting close, trim the pole perpendicular to the wind and trim the guy until the chute has a nice shape. Now the wind has changed and you need to start the trimming process all over again. Better yet find a friend with spinaker experiance and have him hold your hand the 1st several times you try it. Hi Debora, The boat that you linked is Fred and Lilly's M23. It's the only M23 on the water with the split cabin. M23 #2 with the new cabin belongs to Gail and me (happy Thoughts Too) and #3 belongs to Jerry & Robin (Robin's Nest). Both of these boats are still under construction. All of the others were built many years ago by Jerry Montgomery and have a long Deck House. New trailer

Does anyone know where I can get a good trailer for a M15. Just a painted trailer would be fine. Trail Rite wants $1500 for one and that seems high to me. Could be that I am just not accustomed to the cost of things these days. Smitty

Mast Rake Forestay

Bob. I had the shrouds shortened in order to rake the mast 8 to 10 inches. Now the bow line adjuster is too short. Do I go with a longer pinned adjuster or is there a short t-buckle I can use? M23 on Puget Sound?

Rick and I were out Sunday on the Puget Sound, and we saw a M23 with what looked like (through binoculars, from a distance, and under massive bouncing) a red stripe, but I don't see any 23s on the database listed as having a red stripe (and I don't remember enough details about the colors of the boats from the San Juans trip to know if what I was seeing was something other than a red stripe). We tried to catch up, but the 23 was going north headed across the ferry track that we had just crossed, so after a bunch of furious waving, we turned back south. Definately go with the split backstay adjuster. In addition to your mentioned advantages if you have enough slack in the backstay it is much easier to pin up the forestay.
