Mast restoration M-15

Thanks to all of you skippers that have helped and encouraged me to refloat the Pelican with her new lead keel. I am excited to put to sea and show her off. Her aluminum mast is oxidized and doesn't match the Bristol condition of the haul. I am thinking of possibly a light sand blast or bead blast and then powder coating. Any suggestions? As a TIOG (Technologically Impoverished Old Goat) and nine years out of warranty (Ps 90.4), I have the greatest admiration and appreciation for the superb job Bill does for ALL of us on the MSOG. I sailed my Snipe on Green Bay when I was a kid, so many centuries ago, but don't recall the "Split tail mainsheet" that Gary O has on his M17 "LB/GF" and would like to give it a try on my M15 "Rejoyce!" The photos proved too copious for my diminished comprehension, so could Gary O or someone else explain to me just how to rig it? I am a newcomer to the list eager to find out more about the Montgomery 17 with the thought of buying one. Right now I don't have a boat but I just sold my 24 ft sharpie. I live in Tappahannock, Virginia. Anybody in a radius of say 100 miles who owns an M17 that I can examine? Bill, It's not clear to me why you didn't get my email address from Bones and not bother the list with this request. It's also not clear as to your agenda for explaining to the list why you want my email address. So I figure I'll go along with your plan in order to give you all the rope you need. Ed, Yea, the 17 can take a lot of weather and with the proper sail set you should be able to handle most of what the Bay has to offer. The most I have been in is about 25kts but I believe some of the other 17 owners might have been out in more than that. There are a bunch of accomplished sailors (17 & 15's) on this board who have might be able to better attest to the heavy weather nature of the M boats and I'm sure they will be happy to relate their experience. Cap't Greg is the other 17 owner and he monitors this board so if he's available I'm sure he will chime in. Good luck in your search and IMHO you can't find a better small boat then the M boats.
