I tried the same heater, Tod, but found that having the hatch open far enough to make me satisfied I wasn't going to suffocate let in more cold air than the heater could warm up. I didn't realize catalytic heaters produced moisture. It would be nice to find something that helped eliminate condensation while warming the cabin. Cook Stoves

For what its worth and for the person keeping track of such things, I have always used a two burner traditional Coleman on my boats. You can cook anything you want with few limitations. On the 17 it is always used in the cockpit and sits quit nicely on the fuel locker lid. A pot on the stove will always move before the stove does. I just replaced my old antique with a new version and am happy to report the new one works very well. I like this kind of stove enough to even drag one along when motorcycle touring (as long as there is at least two bikes) and always when car tripping. Downside, they are noisy...rattle like hell....and a little big. I have always considered a Coleman stove to be a luxury travel item. Note: I draw the line at taking this unit backpacking....I do have a lightweight folder for this.....~:0)

If Tim D., M17 "Puff" can wait a bit, I am now building a small cabin heater for use in the cabin of "Rejoyce!" my M15 #361. >Sounds interesting John. I am all ears. Used a similar one in my previous M15 "Joy" for overnights all winter long, worked fine. Fuel is Sterno (canned heat). I remember cruising decades ago in SE Alaska north of Prince William, BC, and I am sure you need one, Tim. >BC is a big place....and I am very happy to report that I live a very long way from Prince William Sound and am within 2 hours drive of the 49th in the only desert area of Canada. Although I don't enjoy the weather our deep southern brothers enjoy....you might say I live in the California of Canada. Alaska? No chance.....not even a small one. Even an hours drive north of me is summer only territory.....the older I get the stronger my allergy to cold gets. Having said all that, I would like a heater of some kind.....and the moisture by product of a combustion style device sounds worse than cold dry air to me. Tim in Kelowna

Yes it's true, Sleeping on the boat while it was on the trailer (boat is unable to weather vane) the wind came up pretty strong from the stern. Our CO alarm did go off even though the heater was outside. We finally figured out the wind must have been blowing across the heater and up to the weather boards allowing a little exhaust in?? Turned the trailer around, aired out the boat, reset the alarm, and didn't have any other problems. As long as the heater is outside, and I have the CO alarm inside I feel comfortable. But that's just me. You have to make your own decision. I know a lot of folks that "crack" the hatch and use things like Origo heat pals or Coleman catalytic heaters inside. Hi Jim, I didn't have a bow pulpit on LEPPO, so I ordered one from Bob Eeg and installed it myself. Delivery was rapid. If you're handy with tools installation is no big problem. Your first problem is to locate the bases (and the pulpit) properly. I did this by extending the line up the front of the bow, and positioned the front of the pulpit to be about at that extended line. With that done, all you have to do is mark the holes and drill. Let me caution you though. Drill one hole in each base, insert a screw and fasten it finger tight. Now the pulpit can't move and you can mark the other holes and are certain that nothing moves or shifts. You will need a helper when you are ready to make the final installation. Even though the M15 is small, my arms weren't long enough to hold and place screws in the base plates on deck at the bow, while at the same time putting washers and nuts on the screws up forward in the cabin. A screw inserter, and screwdriver holder on deck is needed, while you are inside the cabin tightening the nuts. Don't forget to drill the holes a bit oversize; fill them with epoxy and when hardened, redrill the holes to the proper size for your screws. This will seal the balsa core at each hole and prevent water from getting into the core. Also remember to bed the plates before final installation. Tighten gently, you don't want to squeeze out all your bedding compound. Then after the bedding compound has set up, you can retighten the nuts and finish the installation. Connie ex M15 LEPPO
