Regarding extra ballast for an M15

When I sail with a friend who weighs 250#, we hit consistently 6 - 6.5 k on a reach in 15-18 k winds. This speed increase comes when he stands in the cabin. I have even seen an occasional 7 k on my GPS with him standing in the cabin and leaning forward at the base of the mast. We go back into the 5k area when he comes into the cockpit. Norm M15 #172

Jim, Maybe you have posted this and I missed it, but is Pelican dry sailed or kept in a berth? If she is berthed is it seasonal or year round? How much time elapsed between when the centerboard got stuck and this repair? Thanks, steve Steve R. It seem like I have removed all of the ballast in the keel. I haven't removed any from inside the cabin if ther is any there. M-15 keel repair

I finally got the centerboard down. Go to the attached link and you will see why it was stuck Normal thickness is 1 in. Where the steel ballast was rusted it had swollen to 1 1/2 inches. Suggestion for those with steel filled CB. Be sure that you patch any cracks or dings. Save yourself a whole lot of grief. random thoughts at 2am

First, thanks all for weighing in on the 'smell' issue. I will be replacing the hatch and cushions this weekend and that will probably tone down if not eliminate the smell. I feel more comfortable knowing others have experienced it with their boats. The big news is I have rigged my M15 for the first time with the help of the very able Mr. Bones (thanks again Bones). That was a thrill! everything seemed in good shape and the only things missing are the main sheet and a batten in the main sail. We stole one of the reefing lines (I think that's what it was) to use as a temporary main sheet. Bones assured me that all was well and in good shape. I'm pretty excited. Bud, if your monitoring this list, she looked real sweet all rigged up. I remember last fall when I bought the boat from you being a little overwhelmed with all the "stuff" this little boat has and doubting that I really wanted to do this sailing thing. You told me not to be overwhelmed, that it would all get sorted and be ok. Well after today I'm feeling pretty good about my purchase. Much more to do. I need to get this boat in the water! I need to learn how to tie a #@#*&^% bowline. I need to go to bed. later, Dan M15 #500

HI Larry and the San Juan Sailors! You folks are going to have a tremendous time, I wish you the best of conditions and I would love to be there to join you. Don't let Dick Lane tell too many stories, and see if Sean can keep his jaw from being agape beholding the beauty of the San Juans...... Hope you get to witness pods of Orca again. Take lots of pics.
