Greetings, I'm Ernie Nichols from Keene, NH. M15 629 I've been monitoring this list for some time and just want to thank all of you for such helpful, entertaining and encouraging submissions. I appreciate the positive attitudes! I know that some of you live in places where the expression "Think Spring!" doesn't have much meaning. To you, I say "Wow, sailing in the winter. That must be wonderful!" For the rest of you who are still iced in, I say "THINK SPRING!" You understand. Our sailing will be all the sweeter because it is such a rarity. Ernie

Centerboard Pin

My pin on my 23 was protruding this spring. I popped her out while on the trailer and noticed about a 4 degree bend. I had a new one made at a machine shop and feel I got raped at $40 for a 4-inch piece of metal. Oh well, BOAT is an acronym for "Break Out Another Thousand" Theo M23 Sails Increase

Donglai, Be careful about laying the Honda down for transport. There is a right way and a wrong way, and it is easy to make a mistake. If it is laid down on the wrong side it will leak oil out of the exhaust. Check the manual. I think this is a concern for all 4-stroke engines. steve Steve R. We had to shut it off to let it cool before turning it back on again. It worked fine afterwards in speed just above idle, we cruised at 2 knots or so with the motor all afternoon. Any ideas on what could be causing the oil burn? Oil also leaks out of the exhaust pipe if I ramp up the engine. 2) My centerboard pin almost fell out. After I towed the boat out of the water, I saw that the centerboard pin is stuck out way on one side. I could push it mostly back in with just hand force. Downsizing to a Montgomery 15

I am selling my Gary Mull Ranger 26 and looking to downsize. Too much upkeep for this aging sailor. Being a long-time fan of Hess boats, the Montgomery 15 seems the perfect boat for me. I have spent the greater part of the month coveting them and have decided that one will definitely be in my future. The Montgomery 15 seems like an actual sailboat, not a toy with cloth flapping in the wind. I would like to be able to continue to ply the Puget Sound waters in relative safety. I consider myself an adequate sailor, having had boats from 22 to 38 feet over the last 15 years. Any other downsizing sailor's out there who now own a Montgomery? I would also be interested to hear from any recent purchasers. How long does it take to order and then receive a Montgomery 15? Did you special order anything? Ports, hardware, sails? Other advice? Hello All, Endelig is on her way to Oregon with her new owner. He is very excited to sail the San Juans and has dreams of sailing to Alaska. I hope that he will join the group and enjoy the camaraderie as much as Darcy and I have. We will be ordering our new C-Ranger 21 EC soon and continue our adventures on the water. Even though she will be a "stink pot", maybe you guys/gals will allow us to tag along, at a respectful distance, on a trip or two. We have greatly enjoyed our participation in this fine group and will keep in touch in the background. hmmmm ...monogramed trailer jacks...I'll have to give that some thought. I was thinking something a little easier like ....say......a monogramed wheel chock! hahaha. Thanks for the vote of confidence though, Jeff!. About 5 weeks left 'till we head out to meet Larry and the gang in the San Juans. Wow! The reality that it's really gonna happen for us this year is setting in. I can't even begin to tell you how disapointed we were last year when I wasn't able to get Dauntless ready in time. The list of things to get done before we go seems endless but I'm making a dent in it. Today was spent pulling all four wheels off the trailer, re-packing the bearings, and checking out the brake system. I feel like the guy "Earl" on the TV show where he's always crossing things off his list. Hopefully the fact that I turned down an opportunity to go sailing with a buddy today to instead be a good boy and get some of these projects done will buy us some good karma. Anyone that knows me knows that turning down an opportunity to go sailing is a rare thing........and rightly so. We are really looking forward to the week on the boat. We are really NOT looking forward to the "bonzai" 1100 mile two day over the road blast each way! Too bad you can't Fedex a Monty! Luckily, Larry has promised us that we'll fall in love with the Washington, Oregon area (neither 'Jo nor I have ever been north of CA). I know he's right. Heck, maybe we won't make the 1100 mile trip home. :-) I wonder if they need any teachers and fireman in the Anacortes area???? ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Jib Downhaul & Reefing

To All, Does anyone have a write-up on the Jib downhaul and reefing rigging for the M-15? I found the rigging write-up on the MSOG, however, my boat does not have the jib downhaul or reefing option. I was hoping someone had pictures showing how the whole assembly is rigged. I have a pretty good idea of how it works, I just need a few pictures of the hardware and the placement of said hardware. Also, if you could include the size and style of each piece of the hardware, that would be helpful. Thanks in Advance, Skip #201 M-15 1982 For anyone who cares........... I had planned on naming my boat 'Brandy'.........however.........my brothers had other thoughts!! (I won't tell you what they thought of the name I chose) Both of my brothers own bikes (Harley Davidson) and have been after me to purchase one so we all could ride together, instead, I ended up buying an M-15. Well, after we all saw the movie "Wild Hogs" a couple of weeks back, they decided to start calling my boat 'Wild Guppy'. I think the name has stuck!!
