Jim Desnoyers comments about the mounting brackets for the P19 ladder being modified for M15s with the mounting brackets turned inboard may explain why mine, just received, appears defective, in that the support flange for the ladder, when the ladder is extended for use, meets the ladder tube at a sharp edge, not against the flat of the flange. I complained, and was told they are all that way and work ok. OK? It may also explain why the black plastic gizmo that holds the ladder up against the transom when the ladder is not in use is not aligned with the ladder tube, and when the ladder is up, one arm of the gizmo's "U" is bent way over, and the other is not doing anything. Was told that was ok too, that it will not break off in time. Think I'll take mine to my son-in-law who can drill stainless steel and remount the gizmo in proper alignment. Have other users of the P19 ladder on their M15s noted the same problems?

What a beautiful ship the Nor'Sea 27 is! Boarding ladders built in/on the rudder are a pretty standard feature of the Cape Cod Catboats, partly because the rudder is so large and robust. I added cheap aluminum mast steps to my 18' CCB The Old Cat and they worked great. She had three very heavy sets of pintels and gudgeons. I moved "down" to my M15 "Rejoyce" because I was getting too old and frail to handle the large and powerful 271 square feet of canvas in a single sail.

Hi Christian, My guess is Little Wing is rigged with a wire luff jib, rather than, a hanked on jib. The second line is the tack line. By releasing the tack line and halyard the jib may be pulled back to the cockpit by the sheets. I have seen Potters rigged in this fashion but I do not recall anyone on the list commenting about rigging their Montgomery in that fashion. It would keep you off the pointy end of the boat during sail changes without resorting to roller furling. When I reach the point of needing new sails this is something I will consider. Downhaul and Finally got to see an M15

Hi there, I?ve wanted, for the last few years, to see a Montgomery 15 in person. I?ve not been in a rush to purchase a new boat as I sail a Ranger20?also with the real estate market in flux (as I?m an appraiser) I?ve been careful with my spending. However, I was fortunate to stumble on a very nice M15 yesterday named ?Little Wing? at a local lake here in Northern California. It had two lines that are running from the bow that appears to be a jib down haul running to the cockpit. I understand one of the lines would pull the jib down my question is what does the other line do? I?m hoping to purchase a M15 later this year, after I sell my Ranger 20 this spring. All the photos on the MSOG site are great but?after seeing ?little wing? in person. I?m convinced that a Monty 15 new or pre-owned is the boat I will retire with. Thanks for your input? Christian

Boarding ladders and their installation was a recent topic on the TSBB Potter board. Here is a link to the relevant thread. http://bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/potter/index.cgi/noframes/read/59731 It seems that the Potter ladders are manufactured by Windline, but a customized version is made for International Marine, the builder of the Potters. This version is apparently narrower and also features reversed mounting brackets to accomodate the narrower transom. Given that some previous M-boat owners have installed ladders purchased from IM, I thought this might be of interest. A permanently mounted boarding ladder is not just a luxury on our boats. I'd try Ebay first to sell that kidney!!!! Scott and I drove to Florida (2600 miles one way) in about 44 hours, so if you sell that thing quick you should still have plenty of time to get down here for the weekend! I should probably tell you guys that, well,,,,,,it blew too stinkin' hard for us to go out and have fun today, so instead we pulled Dauntless out of the water in 25 knots of wind ( I know, I know we wussed out) and got her ready to trailer down to Phoenix this weekend. Dropping the mast was rather sporty, but the little a-frame set-up we use works pretty well. We just lined her up with the wind so we weren't battling a crosswind and down she came. The last few days here it has blown over 20 knots consistantly. On Friday my meteos wind meter (which I absolutely love) was registering as high as 44knots. I guess you can have too much of a good thing! Duantless remained snug in her slip. Way too much for this would-be sailor. Gary O.and I are planning on taking a bunch of photos of the AZ Yacht Club's B-day regatta to try to stir up more interest for a winter Monty gathering there next year. They are expecting 80, yes I said eighty boats to attend. Tony Kozlick of the M23 "Joken II" and I have been emailing and I know that he is planning on being there. So we know at least three and I think 4 Montys are going to attend. So, we're "on the hard" for the week and you guys won't have to listen (read) all my braggin about sailing in the winter for a few days!!! BUT...I know you'll get even in July when we are fryin' eggs on the car hoods without a chance for any decent wind!and you guys are enjoying your beautful summers. Still time to register and come join us! Sean

Hey Larry, Well, your response to the post about putting together a calendar was......only number two. :-( It looks like not too much interest so I just decided to let the idea fade away. On a brighter note...ONLY 6 Months till SAN JUANS!!!!! I was going to pull the boat outof the water today to get ready to trailer down to Phoenix on Friday. We are going to meet up with Gary Oberbeck, Jerry Montgomery, and Tony Kozlick at the AZ Yacht Club's Birthday Regatta....But.....I just got home from work and its blowing 10-15.......hmmmmmmm....maybe we could sail today and pull it tomorrow!!!!! :-) Sean
