I found a small bail fit perfectly (4 inch bail, maybe?) on the outside of the mast tabernacle pinned by the bolt that secures the mast. Prior to raising the mast, run the bolt through one side of the bail, through the tabernacle, through the mast, and back out through the tabernacle and bail. I've used the tube approach--or something very similar (you can drill and tap a solid bit of aluminum rod to attach an eye strap), and found it loosened up on me sometimes. regarding trunk liner separation

Hi Robbin, I had a similar problem when I re-furbed my M15 last winter. Mine looked like the center board may have broken and dislodged the epoxy holding the liner to the bottom of the keel. After I dropped the center board out, I could see that this was not a major problem. The area ranged from small chipping to about 1/4" in size like yours. This area was about 18" long on each side of the trunk. I took a small grinding tool and expanded the area. I used Bondo to fill the area. After the Bondo set, I faired it and applied bottom paint. The fix is now 14 months and looks as good as new. Norm Bundek M15 #172

Boom Vang

George, On second thought, I can see that the vang key assembly would not be a good idea for the mast end of the vang. Besides wanting to fall down and out of the slot, the vang should probably be hooked hard to the boat at least at one end or it will eventually end up in the drink. Rick

I'd like to thank those of you who replied to my trip this weekend. Sean was kind enough to open his house to me as there were no rooms left in town. There was a powerboat poker run on the lake and 50 miles upriver was the Laughlin River Run which is a huge motorcyle rally. The protesters didn't show up and the event went off well. It's been over 30 yrs since I attended a full military funeral. Having over 150 fully flagged motorcycles follow the hearse and limo to the cemetary was emotional. Havasu showed me the best that small town America has. People stopped their cars and got out and saluted or placed their hand over their heart as we went by. My service during the Viet Nam conflict helps give me the conviction to keep this practice up. I'll be attending more of these as needed in the Az area. Let's hope it ends soon. And yes: Sean has a full time job bringing his 23 back to a proper pocket yacht. All the big problems are below the waterline, so he's working in the shade. One good way to look at it. Sandy
