Hi Sean: Since you're 1/3 of the way down, then your situation isn't as bad as it might be. I'm assuming you're on the trailer, and the boat is positioned back a foot or so it clears the slot, right? If you give the keel a whack on the side with a hammer, do you get showered with rust flakes? That's the way it was with mine... tons of loose rust that came off the keel when hit with a hammer. Don't go nuts with a sledge... I'm just talking about a reasonable hit, with no more force than when driving a nail. The way I got mine to drop is by hammering on the sides. I got a long (maybe 5') bar of 1/2"round steel that I had laying around, touched the side with one end, and hammered on the other. 10 or 15 hits on one side, then I'd walk around to the other and repeat. Each whack brought more rust. I'd stop occasionally and try to dislodge rust with a thin piece of strap steel, kind of like a giant feeler gauge. I'd run this up the sides as far as I could go (don't position yourself directly under the keel in case it lets go suddenly.) I got a little rust out this way, but most came out by hammering. Eventually the keel started to move, and it dropped down. All told, took maybe an hour and a half of poling and hammering. Once I got it to drop, I removed, sandblasted, faired, and reinstalled the beast. This probably isn't the best way to get it out, but it was the best I could come up with, and didn't seem to damage anything. Bill, I'm running AOL 9.0 Security Edition on Windows XP Home. Previously I was able to access norseayachts and montgomery. More recently I couldn't, I had the same problems you reported. Now something has changed again, and I can access Norseayachts and montgomery with no problem. Seems like AOL solved their problem. Dave

Hope that is of some help. Thanks, but AOL eventually fessed up that they were indeed having issues with their servers (blanket excuse for all problems on the Internet). The said three working days and yes, now Bob's site(s) work. That's not the end of it though. I got rid of their newest AOL Security Edition (Ya Right) and went back to an older 9.0. I believe part of it is they are using us to test their new stuff. How dare they? Thanks so much. I think I'll be able to be back to normal pretty soon. Bill

I can get to Bob's sites with Internet Explorer, but not with AOL. I've done a recovery, deleted and replaced their software and then went to a different version I happened to have and still wont work. There's another 23 that use to be in Gilbert, Az. He moved to Frisco, Tx awhile back, so that's another one that was in the area.

Early M17 Electrical Panel

>From what I have seen so far, the factory circuit panel does not appear to have any fuses or circuit breakers for the individual circuits. I do recall a small red button at the top of the panel. Folding Swim Platform

I finally got the folding swim platform installed. After several unsuccessful bids on E-bay for a teak platform, I finally won a bid on a new polyethylene platform with a single step (starboard like material). I deliberated a long time as to whether I would want to put a big piece of plastic (in lieu of teak) on the transom, but price and ease of maintenance finally won out. I hope this does not revoke my subscriptions to "Small Craft Advisor" and "Good Old Boat". The mounting angle, stainless steel hinge, suspension cables, and backing plates were fabricated parts. Pictures are posted on my web site under the projects page http://members.cox.net/slsail/feedback.htm along with some other new projects I have completed. The folding swim platform may not be for everyone, but I have found that having a "back porch" makes it a lot easier to board a dingy or kayak, as well as facilitate working on the rudder or outboard. Hmmm.... more likely it's for the wife to hang on to when you're steering! Of course, movable ballast should be as far forward as possible.
