Scott- I don't think this is a Montgomery. We never made a 15 without lapstrakes, and never made a 17 with a bulb keel. Please note new email address- the old one runs out in about a week. Mongomery identification question...

I'm looking at buying a sailboat that I'm having trouble identifying. The title says it's a 1990 Montgomery Kit. It's about 15' long, 6' beam, with a cabin. It's laid out much like the Mongomery 15's shown on the MSOG website and the Montgomery Boats website, but it lacks the lapstrake look on the sides, and it has a fixed steel bulb keel rather than the swinging keel/swing centerboard combo. I can't find the HIN anywhere on it, and the only ID number the title had on it was "00982". The price is pretty good, the boat looks like it meets my needs (I have 3 children ages 6, 3, and 1), and the title is clear. The boat needs some woodwork, the hatch and trim around the cabin need to be replace, and the wood in the tiller is splitting and delaminating. All the fittings seem to be and good shape, and the hull is sound, so I think I can build all the wooden bits that need to be replaced. I'd still like to be able to identify the boat, just in case I would ever need to buy parts for it. I need to get back to the seller with an offer in the next few days before she goes out of town; if not, she's going to donate it for a tax write off (on the plus side, this means she'll likely take a lot less than the asking price). M_15 VS CP 16

Perfectly said, Connie. You have sold me on the M15 again. I'll buy another. I would add one more thing and that is that the M15 is beautiful. I just decided to keep the cover off my boat for the remainder of the season because I miss looking at her. If I knew years ago that I could have keep this beautiful boat, this piece of sculpture, right outside my window, I would never had bought a yacht club boat. bottom paint and bunk boards

Bill: Really doesn't have bottom paint. After a week in the water at Coyote Point the bottom will have considerable amount of green algae which takes a little more than just a good hosing to remove. As Dick Lane knows, Pete's Harbor in Redwood City is another story. I've put my hand in the water to check the temperature and it had barnicles on it when I removed it. Thank's to all who helped with changing bunk boards. Actually, the carpeting isn't in bad shape except where the bottom of the boat slides. I'm thinking of just reversing the bunk boards so the boat will slide on the portion not previously used. Rich Cottrell

Hi Sandra, What a fun day... Some of my best days are when I have nothing to do and all day to get it done... No where to go and all day to get there. I believe your day could be best described here on the Left Coast as a Hawaii kind of day. You know... no stress, no hassle and loving every minute of it. I can feel your excitement in your post. How rare it is to feel so great. May you have many more "retired" sailing days. People who have been working all their life, sometimes feel retirement is going to boring. Myself, I'm not quite retired... However, when I'm off for five months of the year... I often wonder how I'll fit going back to work into my busy schedule. Congratulations on retirement. Sounds like you've got it well under control. Not sure where you are, but, there's lots of warm water sailing most every year, the farther south you go. Call it a vacation and go have fun. Bones, I'm considering trying a Minn Kota Electric... I have a gently used old one labeled a 3hp. All Stainless and 10 - 15 years ago was touted as the motor to use for Bone fishing in the FLA. Keys. 12 Volt and I believe about 40 lb. of thrust. I really don't use a motor much. I've also been looking into alternatives to the 6HP 2-stroke that is included with the boat. Looks like the Yamaha weighs in at just over 60 pounds, while the Honda is just over 50. I had been getting all of my Honda stuff from the Gen. Manager of a local dealer. I called this morning to find he's no longer there. No specials and no free first services (like before). So, it looks like my Honda loyalty may be waning. I do think I'll give the Minn Kota a try. It would be nice to be able to pull the electric and put it in the cabin (no spilled fuel) especially during next years Cruiser Challenge. I'll use the Genoa for Horse Power and the electric for added ballast. What a plan... Hope it works. Still don't have my new M-17 home, so all of this is armchair thoughts & planning.
