I started playing around with the calculator to see how to improve the capsize results for the M-15. http://www.image-ination.com/sailcalc.html Sail area, LWL, LOA had minimal affect on the results. Displacement had some influence. More was better. Beam had a big impact. However, smaller was better. It seems a lead canoe would prevent capsize. Steve R. M-15 #119 Lexington, KY

Yeah, that's what I had in mind too Howard, right down to the rings on the top. The only problem is the mainsheet, but heck, there has to be a simple solution for that (actually, it would probably work over top of the boom or under it...). I think the 2 man is too small, but the 4 ought to work. I'm thinking more for weather protection that for shade, so UV isn't a big concern. The rain fly of a Timberline might work....just the center ridge pole, plus the two ends, should hold up the center, and use the bungee clips on the corners to hold it out. It even has lift rings on top that you could suspend it with. But as I recall, UV light will destroy it pretty fast. They don't recommend leaving them up long, so it would best be used as a temp rain shield. Hi Tom, Craig and Scott, et al. Between our recent California storms I rolled "Really" out into the alley behind our rear yard and setup the boom tent and lee cloths and took some pictures. I forwarded them to Doug King who offered to help. He did the rest. Both of us added comments. If any of you have questions ask on this list. Small Craft Advisor

Okay, I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself. Without even unstapling my Nov/Dec (#18) issue of "Small Craft Advisor", I recognized Greg Moore's Full Monty on the cover, even though she's sitting in a trough and 2/3 of her is invisible and despite the fact that I did not remember her hull number. Incidentally, the photo is downright cool. Montyphiles who don't subscribe are missing out: 15's and 17's feature prominently in almost every issue. For those of us hibernating in the frozen North for up to 6 months of every year, the armchair sailing lifeline is invaluable.

M15 Rigging Information

I thought I saw a step-by-step rigging instructions for the M15? Does anyone know where I can find it? I'll be rigging my M15 tomorrow for the first time and it would be helpful and expedite the process. Thanks again and enjoy reading everyones' comments. Hopefully, I'll be able to contribe shortly. Much as I like kayaks, it would have been incomparably better with Umiaq.
