I don't want to beat a dead horse, but let's make a small adjustment. I want a glass Coke, but you say I can't have it until I try a SHOT of Sprite. I like Sprite, I drank 2 gallons of Sprite the day before, but right now I want a Coke. What makes it worse is that it's a place that I go to because it sells the best tasting Coke and only Coke. I can't have my damn Coke until I drink something I don't want! I don't care that it's free! I just don't want it! I'm not a child who need someone to make choices for me. That's all. I have understood all along - I DO see what you're saying, at what dan was saying HOWEVER - I'm not so sure you see what I'VE been saying as far as the literal use of the word "take" - more than one person has used this to describe the transaction between artist/entertainer and consumer - now I KNOW that it's not meant literally because I KNOW the artist doesn't just come and take one's money - the fact that it continues to be used to describe the action is the problem, since, if one stopped supporting artists that "lecture", they would then be spared the lecture I mean, especially if everyone agrees that artists don't literally "take" money from you, why continue to say they do? because it contributes to the perception that the artist is somehow at fault for not being able to read the consumer's mind and figure out exactly what the consumer can and can not stand to hear? another thing that you're not understanding is that self-expression IS speaking out! read what I said earlier about poems regarding beauty and paintings, etc. lastly, I NEVER criticized dan and called him pathetic for needing to be entertained - in fact I defy you to find one instance of me calling someone pathetic on this list but the truth is, I don't need to "win" this argument, because the battle was won a long time ago - artists will continue to speak out, entertainers will continue to speak out, mccartney will continue to sell veggie food, babs will still tell people to conserve energy and off-topic stuff that KLF fans feel is relevant (enough) to post will continue to be posted score one for the open minds!

[OT] Hooj Choons...

Dear Hooj person, It is with deep regret that we have to inform you that Hooj Choons, as we know it, is no more. Following two years of fairly horrendous financial struggle, during which time we fought to trade our way out of mounting debt problems, we've had to call in the professionals to resolve matters once and for all. Naturally, this has come about as a direct result of: Sept 11/ any middle eastern conflict you care to name/ downloading/ the slump in the global economy/ music industry/ dance music industry... No, the truth is that as distinguished labels, clubs and magazines shut down around us, we failed to react quickly or effectively enough to what was going on. We thought we'd seen this happen before, and could work our way out of it, but this was a different kind of slump. It feels like we should write some kind of mini - obituary for Hooj at this point, but maybe everything that needs to be remembered about us is out there already: a hundred and thirty six releases spanning 13 years, all of them, for better or for worse, trying to live up to our original aim of remaining 'occasional providers of half decent house'. (Key members of staff will be carrying on the work of hooj.com, one of the few beacons of hope amongst the gloom of recent times, under a new name and ownership. Please see separate Hooj.com statement for details at the top of the message board). Its been a long, and until recently, enjoyable ride and we thank everyone for their support over the past twelve years. Yours, The Hooj Mob
