Oh what a ride! Certainly one of the better Garretts, with the possible exception that the ending was a bit abrupt. I certainly wasn't expecting the emotional heartstrings to be pulled as much as they were. I was expecting "something" from previous entries this past week or so, then was caught off guard anyway, by who. Then when I thought I'd figured things out at the end, only to be further surprised, and the "boom," close curtain. I literally finished the book 30 minutes ago, so this could be one of those endings that grows on me with time, but I think I'm going to be disappointed if there isn't a Garrett #15.
I finished it this afternoon. I really liked the ending. Cook has stated that in the course of writing one Garrett book, he usually has the plot for the next one spring to mind. I imagine the ending to Wicked Bronze Ambition reflects that Cook already knows what will happen next. I expect that only Cook's eventual death will bring an end to Garrett's adventures. Cook has a new cast of characters to play around with. The Hill denizens must surely have more schemes and plots, past and present, than just the Tournament of Swords. I'd like to see a plot where Morley's elfin relatives come to Tun Faire and get caught up in some Hill magic! On Friday, July 12, 2013, Jerry Kalayjian <jkalayjian@yahoo.com> wrote:

I hope there will be more Garrett P.I. books. The last interview I read he had signed a contract for two more books, which included this and the previous one. Finished this last night. I had been close (well, maybe not THAT close) to dropping the Garrett series. I loved the earlier ones but some of the later ones were pretty flat. This one, however, was very good. Good enough to make me dust off my copy of Sweet Silver Blues .... On Sat, Jul 13, 2013 at 9:24 AM, Ed Del Pilar Soto <paquico@nc.rr.com>wrote:

Finished over the weekend. Enjoyable read. Toward the end (maybe a dozen chapters before the last) I had an idea how things would resolve. And I was satisfied - except for one small quibble. But don't want to spoil anything. Michele

I'm in between books, having finished Wicked Bronze Ambitions, and I was wondering what other authors a group of people who share my love for Glen Cook might recommend. I've recently discovered Guy Gavriel Kay, who has quickly catapulted into my top 5 along with Cook. Looking for any and all suggestions. Mainstream, fringe, quirky, etc. Sci Fi, fantasy, mainstream fiction, etc. Best, Jerry Kalayjian

I recently enjoyed Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence and the First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Both authors write in the dark and gritty vein of fantasy lit favored by Cook. Sent from my iPhone On Jul 16, 2013, at 9:38 PM, Jerry Kalayjian <jkalayjian@yahoo.com> wrote:

Gotta second some of the others' recommendations. Butcher, Weber, Abercrombie, Rothfuss, and Erickson are all favorites of mine, but I'd also add L. E. Modesitt and Lois M. Bujold to that list (especially Modesitt's recent Imager series and Bujold's Chalion books) -- --==From the mailbox of Alan Wheeler==-- I finally made my stupid computer faster; I dropped it out of the window, and it went really fast.
Jack Vance, Roger Zelazny, Robin Hobb, Gene Wolfe, oh and Mary Gentle for the military fantasy/hist fic. Try her Ash series. In the UK it is a single book, I think. Great stuff. On Wed, Jul 17, 2013 at 2:29 AM, B. Alan Wheeler < BrookeAWheeler@netscape.net> wrote:

earlier Roger Zelazny (The Lord of Light) and the earlier Gene Wolf (the Torturer series) - both are brilliant wordsmiths - lyrical and captivating. -----Original Message----- From: B. I made it to the end finally. I liked this one better than the last one and maybe the one before that. The writing was better; it flowed. I had no idea some of what would happen or the whys but I like a mystery so this worked. My complaint was one of the supporting characters didn't have as big of a part, but otherwise I am happy with the story. Another Garrett book will be very nice.
