Jack Vance, Roger Zelazny, Robin Hobb, Gene Wolfe, oh and Mary Gentle for the military fantasy/hist fic.  Try her Ash series. In the UK it is a single book, I think.   Great stuff.

I'm in between books, having finished Wicked Bronze Ambitions, and I was wondering what other authors a group of people who share my love for Glen Cook might recommend. I've recently discovered Guy Gavriel Kay, who has quickly catapulted into my top 5 along with Cook.   Looking for any and all suggestions.  Mainstream, fringe, quirky, etc.  Sci Fi, fantasy, mainstream fiction, etc.

Gotta second some of the others' recommendations. Butcher, Weber, Abercrombie, Rothfuss, and Erickson are all favorites of mine, but I'd also add L. E. Modesitt and  Lois M. Bujold to that list (especially Modesitt's recent Imager series and Bujold's Chalion books)
