That's not the reason why I suggested that you boot with a Dos or Win95/98
Floppy when trying to reconfigure a new Fractint.cfg file with the
makefcfg.exe utility.
Many Fractint users have complained that when run under either Win2000 or
WinXP, makefcfg.exe might not see the Vesa registers of your video card. If
makefcfg.exe can't see your video card's Vesa registers, then the
fractint.cfg file won't be able to point Fractint.exe to your video card's
Vesa registers.
Booting from a Dos or Win95/98 Floppy will hopefully "trick" makefcfg.exe
into seeing the vesa registers and it will write you a new frractint.cfg
file. Then you can remove the floppy, reboot in Win2000/WinXP and hopefully
Fractint will now "see" the Vesa registers of your video card.
Then you can make & configure yourself a "Dos Box" to run Fractint.exe under
Win2000/WinXP etc....
All the best,
TG

shouldn't be necessary to boot to DOS. You can actually create a config
file for each DOS program and it will look for that when you click on the
program icon.
