Art of Noise DVD; Aug 6th

News of this came out just as I was going on vacation, and I don't recall if it has been mentioned here, but the AoN DVD is finally coming out! Into Vision : Complete Compendium It's not easy to find, most of my DVD sources don't have it listed but you can find it at CDNow.com. You will need to click on VIDEO at the bottom of the AoN listings. www.barnesandnoble.com has it listed, which is a surprise, but at nearly twice the price. They also list the disc as coming out on Aug 20th as an import, which contradicts CDNow. Folks in the UK/Eurpoe will find www.bol.com lists it and has already shipped it out. Apparently this came out last week over yonder. I couldn't find it there, but I didn't look very hard. so, i live in the US, finally got the dvd and good news......it worked on my imac without any problems, no temporary changing of regions, limited region time etc......and i have to say it was great to finally see the videos. i've seen them a few times over the past few years, but only on crappy vhs format. whatever the case, i was very happy with the quality of the dvd. the one comment i do have (and not a negative one at that) is that having gone through the videos chronologically, it was interesting to see propaganda finally hit their stride stylistically and visually in the p-machinery video. both duel and mabuse all seem very inferior and unsophisticated in their quality, film-wise and conceptually to p-machinery. in p-machinery, all four members seem much more at ease, the quality of film is actually good, the wardrobe has an "image" to it, and the concept behind the video doesn't suck (oh, and that comment might offend a few of you "mabuse" lovers - although claudia and co. can hardly do wrong in my view). also, did anybody catch (or has anybody ever noticed) the butterfly thing that p-machinery shares with claudia's solo disc. what's up with that? while i may not be able (or choose) to discuss the minute shake-your-head-at differences in timecode, tempo and mixing of the various releases of "a secret wish" i am a die-hard fan of this group. glad ztt released it and glad to finally have the pleasure of viewing it at my leisure. viva propaganda! doug

Tatu on MTV

According to MTV Tatu's first US video will be shown on MTV today and tomorrow. Exact times shown at http://www.tatugirls.com/. Still I don't know why they should be compared to The Prodigy, and I also find very little propaganda-ish sounds. In my view they sound much like Fuzzbox - anybody remember them? At least this is not a bad thing... CobraBora

I think the last hit Horn produced was "Can't Fight The Moonlight" by Leann Rimes in 2000. Not that long ago, but also probably not the sort of "Horn sound" we're hungry for. That's why Tatu seem interesting. Hopefully their quirkier image will bring out the weirder pop side of Trevor -- a trait that's hard to explore when you're producing Rod Stewart, Leann Rimes, the Frames, Cher, etc. (Although Cher's "The Shape of Things To Come" was sheer [cher?] genius!) On a weird side tangent, does anyone know of a single release from the early 90s called "Bride of Fortune" by Choice? Choice was supposed to be a pop music project by Vivienne Westwood featuring her then muse/model Sara Stockbridge (later of Glam Metal Detectives -- see there is a thread of relevance!) on vocals. Anyone know if this single ever materialized? Or was it just "good copy" for a Westwood article in Blitz magazine? I guess sometimes the best projects are the ones that never existed in the first place. When did he last produce a hit... can anyone remember that far back? God, I hope I'm wrong and that it will be amazing but, I don't know, I doubt it somehow. Obviously the release of the first western release of Tatu is coming closer. The group has been renamed to t.A.T.u. and their western homepage www.tatugirls.com has been updated, including some words about their work with Trevor Horn: 'Even t.A.T.u.'s pop electronica has an edge. That's what enticed esteemed producer Trevor Horn to work with t.A.T.u. on the English-language versions of 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane to be released via Interscope Records. Horn, whose credits include membership in The Buggles ("Video Killed The Radio Star"), prog-rock's Yes and the acclaimed The Art Of Noise as well as producer for The Pet Shop Boys, Grace Jones, Seal, Simple Minds and Frankie Goes To Hollywood, compares t.A.T.u.'s sound not only to Prodigy but also a group he worked with in the '80s, Propaganda.' The homepage also contains the video for their first western release 'All The Things She Said'. It doesn't seem to sound too different from the original though. I quite like their russian CD but I have no idea why someone should compare them to The Prodigy... In the meantime they have released a new single in Russia along with another provocative video which is all about, erm, masturbation. CobraBora
