It's true that the sound quality isnÂt that good. At first listen I wasn't impressed by the sound and also the performance. But, listening to it a couple of times since, I've really got to enjoying it a lot. I find it extremely energetic, it reminds of early 70 Miles Davis, and its pure fun to listen at. But, it's true that Zorn is over using the Masada song book. But, hey, it's also the stuff I like the most from him. I still am curious when a Masada related cd is out. I'm not alone and I guess he knows it too. He probably capitalizes on this situation. It can give him the opportunity to release many Tzadik releases which may not be as popular. I'm only guessing on that one by the way. Pierre T. --------------------------------- Lèche-vitrine ou lèche-écran ? Yahoo! Magasinage.
If he's exploiting the Masada project for revenues that will be invested in other Tzadik outings, that's cool with me, but what I'm really concerned about is that Zorn's production (of new material, that is) is way too slow these days for his standards. I'm really looking forward to his unreleased chamber-oriented stuff and also wondering what happened to that series of Naked City live albums. I thought that Electric Masada would be a fine release for die-hard fans only. I wasn't even expecting too much after listening to some bootlegs. It's obviously a spectacular meeting of musicians, but other than that, is the same repertoire with a slightly different approach, some elements of which I'm not attracted by at all. Ironically, the tracks I enjoy the most are the slow/mid-tempos, which sound very, very similar to the Bar Kokhba stuff. I think it's a very good album, objectively speaking, but if you've been listening to Zorn for years, you're quite likely to feel disappointed. I'd definitely recommend Locus Solus instead, it has a lot more to offer, imho. By the way, the Tzadik website has been updated and announces the Frith/Zorn duo for July and another volume of Great Jewish Music devoted to some Brazilian artist unknown to me. Let's cross our fingers for it to be better than the Marc Bolan and Sasha Argov releases! Best, Efrén del Valle --- Pierre Toussaint <pierrecharlestoussaint@yahoo.ca> escribió: >
