Could someone share a little something about who Stanley Crouch is? Game Piece Theory

I just recently got hold of the new hatology release of 'Cobra'. This is only the second ever game piece I have purchased, but my original conclusion was the same. This music is just not interesting unless you have any idea of the theory behind the construction of the piece. It does give me the impression of eavsdropping on bunch of improv musos during a private joke. Does anyone know why this is kept a secret? Professional secret? or even better, what is the theory at work here? AJ

John Schuller is famous/Naked City 2003/catch the Shorter Bus

I am glad to see that I wasn't talking shit when I originally brought up to your attention the possibility that Naked City would be playing Europe this summer even though it was dismissed as one more unfounded rumour (my sources don't fail me). It's hard to imagine Mr. Frisell getting all "torture garden" at this point of his serene career and Mr.Yamantaka has mostly put his pipes to rest concentrating more on electronics and trancing out to his drummers. Patton would probably be the most likely choice. I wouldn't mind Brad Mowen being there instead. You probably have no idea who Mr. Mowen is unless you've already picked up a copy of John Schuller's anthem of misery "Lesser Angel Of Failure". One of the three titles in my Seattle-centric end of the year best of list (which never got posted due to its length), "Lesser Angel" would probably make you wet your pants if it came out on Tzadik. Like Eyvind Kang's (who appears on the CD as well as Mr. Mowen and a few other Seattle compadres) "7 Nades", "Lesser Angel" is emblematic of a strong creative musical moment in this town. Key players like Mowen (whose other band Apes of Wrath has the power of Fantomas/Melt Banana in a blender), Bill Horist (guitar wonderboy whose Nervewheel brings back the Prog to the Power trio) and many others turn this place for me into a musical oasis. If you live in Portland, Oregon, you can catch some of the fun tomorrow Saturday night when the over the top theatrics of the Shorter Bus (driven by Mr. Mowen) and Gigantum (with Mr. Schuller) hit the town at the Ash Street Saloon. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Check out page 66 in the January issue of The Wire for a full-page, highly flattering review of Z-lister John Schuller's 'Lesser Angel of Failure.' Most impressive. Relating to other recent threads, there's also a full page review of the incredible final John Fahey disc, which has a red cross as its title, and Asa-Chang and Junray is one of the magazine's top ten discs of 2002. <PRE>I highly recommend the asa chang cd, its comparable to the best of fellow label mate, Susumu Yokotas work. I haven't checked the review you refer to but it got highly rated in the Wire. Its unusual, in that it is genuinely fun. I've played it regularly at work, and it seems to appeal to a broad range of tastes, procrastinate no further, invest in a copy now!
