Hi! I just picked up the excellent "Gravikords,Whirlies & Pyrophones" compilation at the library and especially the Hans Reichel piece blew me away. I've heard his amazing guitar playing before, but the daxophone is really something special!! Perhaps the coolest "homemade" I've ever heard (but I haven't heard Fred Frith's new band yet, though). What would be the next daxophone CD to get? I see that "Yuxo" and "Shanghaied on Tor Road" are labelled as "daxophone operettas", which might be rather cool. Any suggestions? A few years ago, I did the graphic design for the CDs and the web site for this Tim Linhart, who started making traditional instruments (guitars, cellos, etc.) out of ice up at the Taos Ski Valley, got reviewed on National Public Radio, and went on to do at least one northern European tour, including the famous "Ice Hotel"... http://www.kissmyice.com/ Would've said something before, but the music isn't as interesting as "Iceman Is". Hi! I recently found a bit of info on an album called "Loveman Plays Psychedelic Swing" by a group called Emergency! Apparantly, this the awesome drummer Yasuhiro Yoshigaki's band. Since it also has Otomo Yoshihide on guitar I'm hoping it's a bit in the vain of OY New Jazz Quintet. At least the compositions could easily have been played by that group (Bacharach, Mingus, Roland Kirk, etc..) So, anybody heard this disc or group??? I'm looking for a lift to go from Montreal to Victoriaville on next Friday, arriving there a little before 5 p.m. to be able to catch Tim Hecker/Oren Ambarchi performence. Zornlisters- Had the opportunity to checkout Bill Frisell at Yoshi's last night (best $12 I've spent in 2003). If you like old Frisell, you should definitely catch this show with Viktor Krauss and Kenny Wollesen. Bill brought his loop machine and two delays, and needless to say, shocked it! If you're in the Bay Area, he plays Yoshi's through Sunday.
