I think EYE had some kind of fallout with the world. Last thing I heard was that he moved to Okinawa and started supporting some neo-religious group which worships water. He plays live very rarely and when he does, it's often as a DJ and not in the fanatic screaming mode. So I think Patton was not only much easier to get a hold on, but also maybe he was more in the groove with his recent work in Fantomas and so on. EYE did appear with the Frith, Zorn, Lombardo, Laswell group a few years ago, screaming his brain out. I've seen a couple of DVDs advertised and am considering purchase. One has them doing " A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers" and "Theme One" on German (I think) telly, the other has all of "Godbluff" from Belgian TV. Anyone seen them? Even if you take a look at the last few Boredoms releases, Eye seems to rely less on his screaming and vocal acrobatics and more on his arrangement of the music. In "Super ae" and "Vision Creation Newsun" the focus seems to be less on vocals and more on driving percussion. It's a far cry from the "Molecicco" on Pop Tatari. Not that I'm complaining... I think the newer sound of the Boredoms is much fuller, and a better overall listen. Perhaps he just doesn't scream anymore. "They are sitting there like fucking Gestapo, not enjoying the music, looking fucking sad" etc. At the very beginning he "quoted" the Masada String Trio event (he said with exactly the same tone "get the fuck out of here" - I'm sure he remembers the famous Masada gig in Poland, I gave him a recording with all the "fucking" on the beginning when he was in Katowice last year). But it seems that people, who were on Naked City, were not present at the Masada concert, at least the photographers. They didn't want to fuck off! So, Zorn made a big deal out of it, he was talking about them every second song. Many people were offended (not me), some of the comments in Poland say, that the rest of the band was embarassed. I don't think so. They don't play with Zorn for the first time. Frisell always looks shy, anyway. Patton was totally into this "fucking photographer" thing, he was really funny when he made a gesture to the photographer "you and me, after the concert, outside". I'm sure this poor guy almost pissed his pants, he could think Pattor really wants to fight with him on a street! People wanted the "bad-NY-guy" - they got it. What I find upsetting is that many people think Zorn is a kind of asshole, really unpleasant man, but - as far as I could tell after 2 days with him in Katowice last year - he is not. I guess he is just playing with the people who like to fed with all this avant-superstar-bullshit, they don't have a clue about the music, about art, about being an creative artits these days, but they talk for ages about the behaviours of the star, judging him through their small- town ethics. He is feeding this perception. But, the music was awesome, full NC power, Patton was excellent, barking and screeming with the speed of machine gun, Frisell really played like he did years back, Baron seemed to be not as excited as usually, I guess his personal life has influence on it. I was only a bit disappoited with the Masada tune, I love the original, NC version was a kind of IAO light-surf tune, too soft for me.
