with all the drum talk, I thought I'd mention some great & tasteful drummers
(I left out Baron coz we all know he's god + other jazz/Zorn drummers...
which I'm sure most know)
Some great drummers, who (maybe) use double-kick:
* Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins) - I'm not sure if he uses double kick, but he is
an amazing drummer!
* Richard Hoak (Brutal Truth) - Rich did do "standard metal-double-kick"
things, but what I loved
was his blast beats, especially on "Need To Control", they were like psycho
jazz fills -
(I'm no drummer so it's hard to explain...)
instead of whacking the snare heaps & hard (16ths), he'd do something like
lots of triplet-like things or something combined with cymbal & hi-hat
rudiments, a fast version of what Elvin Jones or some jazz great would....
(??? I don't know how to explain it, but I could be totally wrong, but he
just stands out to me from other metal drummers)
* Chris Penne (The Dillinger Escape Plan) - Now here's a 'metal' drummer who
plays tasteful & creative things, AWESOME! (but he could use a single...??)
* Tony Williams - did he use double kick in 'Arcana'?
* Danny Heifetz (Mr Bungle, SC3) - he doesn't use double kick, but maybe it
in the old days. Great drummer.
* Terry Bozzio - he can be full-on, but he's one of the most creative
drummers I can think of (having toms tuned a semi-tone apart & a number of
closely tuned cymbals) - being melodic.
* Tomas Haake (Meshuggah) - Now he doesn't play standard metal double kick!
AWESOME
that'll do.....
