Hi everyone, I have for sale a 1985 Meade 8" Model 2080/LX3 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope with all the accessories including photographic and motor. The telescope is like new as it is hardly used. The retail back then was over $2000. It would be great for a young, enthusiastic space buff or used as an upscale second scope for anyone. I would take best offer, so if it is reasonable, it could be yours soon. If you live in or near Salt Lake City, Utah, it can be looked at and delivered. According to the table on Sky & Tel the Total eclipse starts at 9:14pm MDT and ends at 10:06pm. Sunset is at 8:39pm and the End of Civil Twilight is at 9:11pm. It should be pretty dark when the full eclipse starts. Jim, I saw it rise over the mountain in Arizona last Friday night. It came up at about 11:50 pm and went across this "V' dip in the mountain. It looked like a bright star, about 3.7 mag. I saw it in Harlan's 10" Meade SCT. A very bright ball of stars like the picture you sent me. It was too low for my 15" dob but I did manage to see Centaurus A, NGC 5128. This is a bright peculiar galaxy with a dark lane running through the middle. You don't want to pass up this one. This one will show up in binoculars too. Up north at your Rush Valley site, I'd look for it at about 12 midnite. Try spotting it with your binoculars first. This is easier and you know you are on your target. I first looked at NGC 5139 through Mark Dakins' 20 X 80 binoculars at the Texas Star Party. I was not disappointed. When you look through your telescope, put in a low power eyepiece. This cluster is about the size of the full moon. I'd love to take a picture of it someday. Good Luck, Debbie

O'Meara is one of the foremost visual observers of our time (or any time, for that matter), and he does NOT use any kind of UHC or other filters for observing nebula!
