Maybe allowing attachments with .jpg extentions would be okay and Cynthia could set it up to block the rest. That way people could still attach photographs and we'd have pretty good protection against viruses. I haven't heard of viruses being sent as .jpg attachments. While we're at it, it should be safe to allow .mpg extensions as well, just in case someone had a legitimate need to attach video to their message. Personally, I'm not too concerned about getting a virus from an email attachment. My email program never opens them automatically, and I only open them if I recognize the extension and the sender.

Attachment test

Cynthia, I just sent a message with an attached picture. Looks like rather than block it it just put it to one side and will await your approval (see below). FWIW, other list's I'm on send the text of a person's message right through but strip the attachments and puts a message at the bottom of the post reading "Non-text portion of message deleted." I'm all in favor of attachments. Please, however, also include a short explanation so that we know it was intended and not some kind of worm, virus, or other unwanted bug. I've seen perhaps 15 or 20 emails lately that simply said, "See the attached file," or "Your file is attached." They usually come from someone I don't know, so deleting them is a no-brainer. Weekend Whether There are two whether systems coming through Friday and Saturday. The north could see some precipitation on Friday the South will be mostly cloudy. Saturday will be generally cloudy with heaver clouds to the north but no precip is expected. The skies could be clear by Saturday night both North and South for obsurving. Keep your fingers crossed. A physics prof. I had a few years ago said that in studies he had performed that it is more like the development of "cobwebs". He suggested that gravitation isn't strong enough to get chunks to stick together. Over time the cobweb like objects grow and join with other cobweb like objects until gravity is strong enough to take over. ...just out looking at Venus and the Moon with my pair of 16x Fuji's. The Galilean Moons are line up very nicely right now with two very close to each other (and widening) on the East side. Take a gander if you ya' haven't. DB
